PS3 Suffers Sales Slump

After impressive initial sales figures, it looks as though Sony's new console isn't quite such a hit in the UK as it first appeared it would be. Using data collected from 7000 UK retailers which account for 90% of the software market, Chart Track today announced that PS3 hardware sales fell by an enormous 82% compared to the first week, with sales of Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm falling by over 60%. Unsurprisingly, SCEE is yet to comment on these disappointing figures. Meanwhile, the PS3 also seems to be struggling in Japan alongside Nintendo's new Wii. Since the PS3 and Wii were launched on November 11th and December 2nd respectively, the PS3 has notched 812,000 sales - only around half of the Wii's 1.95 million units, quite a significant gap considering the PS3 had a month's head start.

its obvious, people are waiting for a price drop because lets face it £425/$850 is just too much to justify for something specified as a games console.

PS3 was released far too late, is far too expensive, and with the modifications done, does not support more than half the current games. Why the hell would you want to buy one???

Lol, I remember that statement - another quote to go among the other 'stupid things said by Sony'. I still haven't played a PS3, I don't know anyone who owns one.

Something tells me I'm not missing out on much yet though, neither the Wii nor the PS3 seem to have that many impressive games yet.

PS3 is a POS, and a lack of compatibility with PS2 games is a serious putoff. Sony didnt leave the emulation chip out in the PAL units to meet EU specifications, they left it out to be cheap.

Here! Here. Lower power and smaller cpus to lessen heat output. My PS3 is a toaster oven it seems. I love it, but man its hot. I need an aftermarket cooler.
