No Mantle Support for Thief Just Yet

Looks like AMD are hedging their bets.
With DirectX also looking to get "close(r) to metal", and OpenGL extensions having wider catchment -and immediate multi vendor support- Mantle really needs to hit the ground running, unless AMD plan on paying for the API to appear in games code.

Nearly, but OpenGL had it beat by three years - more if you consider its IRIS GL origins. The moral of that particular story is DirectX and OGL endure because they are vendor agnostic from the beginning. Glide, RRedline/Speedy3D, S3d, Matrox Simple Interface, Creative Graphics Library and a host of other vendor specific API's fell by the wayside because they remained proprietary, or were opened up too late to other vendors graphics.

Yes yes, all fine and dandy. But the main issue here is, its just talk, making it reality is another thing..

And i bet that won't happen soon, more like 2-3years time.

"When these optimizations kick in is still unknown and wether or not they will be able to compete with Mantle also remains to be seen of course. It will also be interesting to see if this will be a final DX12 feature, obviously available for Windows 8.1."

I should have picked Deus Ex instead of Thief for my never settle bundle.

You are derailing the topic, we are discussing Thief and Free Mantle API for PC gamers - (Remember this news is about PC game ?)

Again - 1 month delay might be big deal for you, but all i am saying here is if it free i don't know why i should complain, plus its not that this game is not functioning at all without this Mantle API.

EDIT: my grammar sucks :(

NFS: Rivals also was released on PC... Without Mantle.

so, what's your point showing me that picture?

Or it's just only you? still i wanna try that game..

don't feed the troll..

Put on your red glasses and you see why.

Me too. But not after months.

Put on your red glasses and you see why.

i don't understand what's your point..
your pic only shows confirmation that thief will be mantle supported but didn't reveal on when exactly the mantle will be implemented..

I think he means the game's inception.

We were not discussing NFS: Rivals dude, i am not sure if you understand such simple things but i repeat we were not discussing NFS Rivals ... (I don't think NFS even promised Mantle)

An Unreal engine game with load screens every 5 seconds and low res textures shouldn't need Mantle.

The game runs like garbage in certain areas (see my specs, it's pathetic). Mantle can't save this game.
