NVIDIA Rolls Out GeForce 337.61 BETA Hotfix

NVIDIA rolled out GeForce R337.61 BETA, which is a hotfix for two glaring issues that came to light with R337.50, which launched earlier this month. To begin with, it fixes an issue faced with Dell's compact 4K Ultra HD monitors, specifically P3214Q and UP2414Q, in which the GeForce GPU would give out "half" or no display (Ultra HD resolution is handled over multiple TMDS links). It also fixes a Code 43 error message after installing driver 337.50 on a PC with Hyper-V enabled. The rest of its feature-set is identical to that of its predecessor.

Agreed, TBH I've had more issues with NVidia drivers over the past 5 months than I have had issues with AMD drivers. For me it used to be that Nvidia was way more reliable but this is definitely not the case anymore - well at least for me.

What cake? This beta driver (which added significant changes btw) wouldn't even make it into the top 50 of the worst graphics driver releases, unless you just started this hobby last year.

This beta driver's hotfix is for specific UHD monitors. Still testing 337.50 Beta for now, though the Shader Cache setting is a little not helpful as my system is quite powerful enough to run most games (and load them) without issues. Now have to wait for a brand-new WHQL Certified driver from them.

Never been one to bash AMD/ATi drivers.. Haven't owned a AMD card since it was just ATi.. but in any case, NVIDIA was quite prompt in getting a hotfix out for this driver at least. Even tho the issue doesn't effect me, it's nice to see the hotfix come in a timely manner.

So it was hyper-v then, that made it unable to install on my pc. I haven't got it enabled on my lappy and there it installed just fine.

Well, they release beta drivers for a reason...

It also hardly "takes the cake" as it would affect the small minority of people actually own DELL 4K displays or frequently use Hyper-V.

The difference between the two is when nVidia has a problem that affects a very small subset of users, they hotfix it within two weeks. When AMD hotfixes, it's because of a major problem that affects a large majority of users. They don't often hotfix to fix something that affects only a tiny percentage of users because they figure, "Hey, it doesn't really impact THAT many users."

Plus, since AMD doesn't like to release WHQL drivers very often, all they do are beta's, but with nVidia they do lots of WHQL's and beta's and STILL went ahead and did a hotfix to a BETA driver of only two weeks so that a very small percentage of users could run that beta.

Just because. That's the difference. nVidia responds to their driver issues much more rapidly and much more consistently than AMD. Been true for a long time and remains true to this day.

this is why Nvidia is a better choice. Used both vendors for some time now & seeing HisDivineOrder's reply just make all the statements true. AMD hardly makes stable WHQL certified drivers while Nvidia does it more. Not sure why's that but one thing I know is that Nvidia responds to their consumers as soon as they encountered problems, on the other hand AMD's support team is slow & doesn't even bat an eye if your product or driver run into problems. So, kudos to Nvidia for reaching out for the folks who're using both specific Dell 4K monitors & Hyper-V on their machines.
