Intel Z97-based LGA1150 Motherboards Show Up on Newegg

Ahead of their anticipated May 9th launch, various motherboards based on Intel's upcoming Z97 Express chipset began appearing on US retailer Newegg.com. The boards are up for order, and ready to ship. Notable mentions include MSI Z97 MPower MAX AC, the company's flagship motherboard based on this chipset, which is going for US $259.99; its slightly toned down variant, the Z97 MPower, priced at $199.99; ASUS TUF Sabertooth Z97, the company's tough-nut motherboard based on this chipset, priced at US $249.99; MSI Z97-Gaming 7, priced at $189.99; GIGABYTE Z97X-UD3H, the company's mid-range Z97 model, priced at $149.99; and the similarly priced ASUS Z97-A. Featuring out of the box support for Intel's upcoming Core "Haswell" refresh processors, including the new high-end Core i7-4790K, Z97 Express brings SATA-Express and M.2 support to the table.

Compared to Z87 boards introduced nearly an year back these Z97 boards are very well priced. I am tempted in getting one of the Gigabyte gaming series motherboards.

Yep, the pricing is much better on this series. One benefit is Gigabyte's Mid tier mobo choice using Intel's LAN as opposed to the MSI's Killer Lan for Mid/High tier.

If Intel isn’t offering anything new or necessary for future computing, then why bother offering anything at all?
Why don’t they just wait and come up something actually relevant?
People are becoming quite tired of “new” products only having “new” labeling.
It appears I’ll be sticking with my Z87 far longer than I imagined.

Honestly I think its going to a long time before we see anything revolutionary. So these refreshes are mainly for someone coming from much older systems and guys like me who Will flip older hardware for new....just because we like to tinker.

I came from an i5-2500 non K and had an HD 6850 GPU ( all gifted by a friend in 2011 march, before i had an Intel Pentium dual core and a 9400GT, so i bought this setup for a couple years hoping to see any relevant tech in the mean time, don't get me wrong, it just an opinion, i haven't done as many upgrades as you might think, waited for quite some time to have an i7 cpu.

I don't work for Gigabyte or any other manufacturer. I run my software firm. Also you didn't read my 1st comment carefully. If you check prices for Z87 boards launched last year and compare those with Z97 based boards then you will see the newer boards much aggressively priced.

....that line is dead....amd is focusing only on apus.....and then the only improvements is in gpu performance

If the new TIM allows people to run 5Ghz with low heat and power, the platform could be worthwhile. If you already have Z87, then just the CPU will do, if you need a new system, Z97 is the way to go.

Opinions could change based on the new CPUs performance.

Nop, at least msi in the new mpower series are saying intel lan in their website they just refreshed.... But i have the feeling they will refresh again. Gaming motherboards they say a lot of stuff for the gaming 9 (presuming the 7 is equal but with the usual less usb ports sata connections (maybe!)...

Rog hero II has improved sound features but not many more i think.... We better wait and give some time to the brands to compeltely refresh their websites. Still i will be looking for the mpower (maybe mpower max if not too expensive) or the rog hero II once i see reviews and if devil canyon is any good or if overclocking is the same nightmare as ivy bridge, haswell k processors. Will be coming from my good old i7 960
