Cougar specs still better.

There is nothing more flawed/misleading in the world than fan specs.

That said, I have to imagine the reason for the new 1500rpm spec (versus 1200 of old) is DIRECTLY correlated to the fact Cougar (their main fluid dynamic rival) runs their fans at this speed. Cougar is a good, cheap fan, but their strength over Noctua was the RPM and cost (partially related to Noctua including a ton of accessories before the redux series), not design. This helps remedy that and even take it a step further.

Now, while I haven't sat down and thoroughly ripped apart the bearings of both, I would be willing to bet Noctua's SSO is a more refined iteration of the licensed Matsushita design Cougar uses, as imho (the ones I have compared) Noctua's effectiveness was slightly better (these things are dead quiet and the airflow sound is not annoying at all compared to other fans). I'm sure at some point in the future someone will do just that, if not test both at 1500rpm now that it's a level playing field, and we'll have a more comprehensive explanation.

By the scab red anti-vibration pads. They couldn't help themselves with that one.
