AMD to Celebrate 30 Years of Graphics and Gaming

I remember my 9600XT, god it was awesome.

As I recall, Ati became relevant for gaming in '99 when Rage 128 Pro beat Nvidia TNT2 in benchmarks at 1024x768 in 32bit color while losing at lower resolution and color depth... they should have squeezed that in the timeline

I think AMD PR needed some sort of theme this year and a 29th anniversary doesn't have the same ring to it that 30th does. The claim is true IF they've decided to celebrate a few months early, which seems to be the case looking at the PR slide. It actually looks like AMD are taking ATI's founding date as a starting point (ATI was founded in August '85) rather than any product, since the Color Emulation Card didn't arrive until the end of the 1985 year.

Well there are different ways of looking at it, even from 1985 it would mean they are in their 30th year which is a fairly common way of doing things, damn the Queen had a whole Golden Jubilee year in 2012, so in AMD's case perhaps they think the are royalty!
