At the Game24 event held at several locations around the world, and online, NVIDIA launched its next-generation GeForce GTX 900 series high-end graphics cards, led by the GeForce GTX 980, and the GeForce GTX 970. The two are based on the company's new 28 nm GM204 silicon, derived from the "Maxwell" GPU architecture. The GeForce GTX 980 leads the pack, featuring 2,048 CUDA cores, 128 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 4 GB of memory.

The GeForce GTX 970, on the other hand, features 1,664 CUDA cores, 104 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and the same memory configuration. Both cards feature TDP rating of under 170W, and clock speeds above the 1 GHz mark. The GTX 980 features clock speeds of 1126 MHz core, 1216 MHz GPU Boost, and 7.00 GHz memory. The GTX 970, on the other hand, offers 1050 MHz core, 1178 MHz GPU Boost, and 7.00 GHz memory. Both cards offer 224 GB/s of memory bandwidth, but feature technologies that help them make the most of it, such as 3rd generation Delta-color compression, a lossless texture compression algorithm. The GeForce GTX 980 starts at US $549, while the GTX 970 starts at $329.

eagre to see what nvidia manage to do next year when die shrink occurs with 20nm process.

any news about GTX 900 M series?

GTX770 launch price is $399, wasn't it? so... isn't that GTX970 at $329 a nice price?

Were there any mentions of any goodies other than just performance bump? Image quality or feature wise?

:O jawdrop, that OC capability !!! It's the first Video card ever that made through 1.5 Mhz barrier on the core on air! (1504 MHz actually at 122% power limit)

Well, at least what NVIDIA somewhat failed to deliver performance wise (lets face it, performance jump isn't all that big compared to their last year high end), but they at least delivered feature wise. The MFAA and DSR are certainly very interesting goodies and might just be 2 reasons i might go with NVIDIA this year. Especially if MFAA will be game independent and won't require specific code to be present in game for this feature to work. DSR doesn't depend on anything anyway, so thats great already.

I just hope AMD will release their cards soon so i can compare what goodies they will offer. Otherwise my wallet is somewhat pointing towards NVIDIA this year...

I'm still using GTX 690. Is it worth going GTX 980?

I would say yes, IF you're not happy with your current performance. A 970 outperforms a 780, according to reviews, including W1zzard's. If you are satisfied, then you simply have the upgrade itch, which is understandable. :D
