Intel's next-generation NUC (next unit of computing) compact desktop, believed to be based on the company's Core "Broadwell" processor, was spotted on the company website. Pictures reveal that the next NUC could be pocketable, yet have the computing power of a full-blown desktop. The NUC system board features some of the newer connectivity, such as DDR3L SO-DIMM slots, M.2 slots, an mPCIe slot, an additional SATA 6 Gb/s port, and processors from the Core i3 and Core i5-5000 series. Intel could unveil the next-gen NUC in January 2015, likely at CES 2015.

Hmm I was about to order 10 for my office but think I'll wait if there's a newer generation on the way!

Love these little machines, perfect workstation machine!

Uh, is the CPU on the backside? I don't see it in the pictures.

Good question. Might be the middle on the lower half of it, but you're right, looks like it's on the other side.

I'd like to see a bigger model to accommodate a 37 - 47 W TDP heatsink for an i5 with Iris Pro. A quad-core i7 would be nice, but a dual-core i5 @ 2.4 - 2.8 GHz would be more than suffice for my browsing and MPC-HC + MadVR needs. Though they might not even plan on using xxxxM CPUs as last gen NUCs were just i3/i5-xxxxU CPUs.

Looks great. Nice feature set. Want

Is a base clock of around 2.5ghz too much to ask for? The typical 1.6 and 1.7ghz Core parts are not much better than the 2.5ghz Core2Duo of many years ago.

Lower clocks translates to lower volts which translates to lower watts. You may be getting about the same performance as a processor 8 years old but look at the power consumption. 65+ watts versus <15?
