What is or was your most expensive pc build or laptop?
My most expensive computer was my Asus G750JX laptop, bought it new in May 2014 for 1600Euro.
Since then I've upgraded the ram from 8 to 16GB and I added a Samsung 840evo 512GB SSD.
Total invested: about 1900Euros.

My server likely came to almost $3000 after a few years of adding hard drives, cards, memory, processors, and server OS. It started around $1600 with two hard drives, one processor, and a copy of XP x64 I already had.

It's almost impossible for me to obtain an exact estimate of how much I have invested in it, as I keep rotating parts between my other rigs and this one.

My very first custom build, July of 2002. I still was still quite a noob, so I bought everything retail, from either compusa or best buy That system cost me just over $2100 usd. I originally bought an Athlon XP 1900+, top of the line at the time... well 2-3 weeks later the 2100+ dropped, after a lot of negotiation compusa gave me a 50% credit on the 1900+ so i could upgrade.

Shortly thereafter, I realized I could never keep up with the latest and greatest, and that system became obsolete for games very quickly (imo) for the money I put in it. I have never spent more than $750-$800 on a desktop build since.

2 years later, I managed to put an Athlon XP 2400+ in it, up the ram to 1GB and replaced the graphics card with ATi x800 GTO, which got me another year out of it, before I built another from scratch.

Can't remember all the parts, but the core of the system was an EVGA 680i SLI board, QX6700, 4Gig of Crucial Ballistix, a threesome of EVGA 8800U's with AquaGFX blocks, and a Silverstone TJ09 chassis. I think the cards+blocks alone cost me more than twice as my entire previous 955X system.

I never built a computer but I believe that this HP Envy 700-414 I bought shortly before Christmas that I am now using is the most expensive computer I ever bought. It costed me around $700 something but then at Christmas time I got a new monitor with it as a present. It came from best buy.

My most expensive build in my current soon to be upgraded X58 system, estimated cost close to $4k. I'm not sure I'd put as much money into another build again.

Its NOT like my new system, that will be more expensive when im finished, but counting in 1997/99 coins, its still going to be hard to pass that. But I have a plan, my system is my basic, so I upgrade every chance I have to make it better which means, my system for today needs a digital PSU and the new R9 390X or mabye 2 for a crossfire setup.
My wife thinks im nuts, but she also recognize that I have a feel for new tech and explore what it can do for me and just have fun with it, she still thinks im nuts(all the time), but she knows if I want that, nothing is going to stop me from getting it.

My first one was at the 486 DX cpu price drop with AMD models entering the market ... it was about $1500 with 14 inch crt monitor ... I could display 800x600 in 16 bit color. It was obsolete in a year when pentiums and vesa local bus were all the rage.
Current one was around half that money and with today's CPU advances (and needs) you just change GPU to stay up to date.
