Firmware is an update to the software that controls the sensors and switches inside of the mouse. You could sort of consider is like a bios.

It can happen. I have had it happen from using a USB hub as well.

I have a Roccat Kone Pure Optical. Love it. The software is nice and I cant believe how useful the "talking dpi guy" is.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on what in the flash went wrong. Sometimes after a bad flash the OS still can see the device, and re-flashing firmware again is possible. Sometimes it is not seen, and you cant flash something you cannot find.

yeah. i never thought misses got a bios now and can get corrupted while updating . its a bit scary i was saving for this mouse
for so long it would be very sad if i had lost it .
first i thought it was updating from the internet cause the dsl went down mean while but then i realized it was copying from downloaded driver .

yes am playing sc and this mouse works like a joy stick
