what is a better cpu

what one should i go with good for gaming and overclocking. price don't matter for the cpu

If you're only gaming, the 4690k is plenty. Both CPU's OC well. The 4790k has higher clocks and hyper-threading. That's the $100-ish difference.

Lots of info already out there though, I encourage you to take a few comparison reads as well. There's been a lot out there about both CPU's now that they've been out for a good while.

I own the 4790k but I do virtualization and heavy multitasking beyond gaming. I have worked with lots of both CPU's, OC-ing is fine on either...though I do recommend you cough up the extra $20-40 or whatever it costs now for the Intel Performance Protection Plan for your K-series CPU. Will be covered for the 3-year warranty should it fail from overclocking. Well worth it for ethically-minded individuals. If you don't plan on keeping the CPU for years, and don't do enough to justify hyperthreading (most don't), then just get the cheaper CPU and enjoy!

If you're going to OC, look into no less than the 212EVO, but suggest going with better air cooling, AIO or water. YMMV on temps and overclocking.

Well, it's a little more tricky than that because it depends on you .

See about 99% of the games out there are only able to use 2 cores (with the exception of games like Civilization Five, Oblivion, Wow with hack and a hand full of other Real Time Strategy games ) and even LESS use hyper threading (i7 technology) so getting a 4core is considered overkill by most budget gamers and they will opt for the i5. HOWEVER, if you want to game, surf, download, edit video and rip DVD's all at the same time,.... you may want to go i7 because 4 cores will provide more multitasking.

AND LASTLY, if you want to do all that i7 stuff AND fold proteins lol ... you go for an Ivy Bridge E or the new 3rd gen X97 equivalent.

In a nutshell it comes down to do you just want to play games or do you want to rule the man cave WHILE playing games? lol

I5 all the way as there be nothing or next to nothing to gain from a I7 if it's just gaming your doing.

And pick up a extra SSD with the savings or some thing.

Those games don't require much IMO. I have an i3 550 that plays Skyrim (no mods) on ultra at 60FPS with an MSI OC edition 7870 overclocked to 1225mhz/1450mhz and get a solid 60FPS at 1680x1050 all day long.
It's not the highest scores but it does well and that is only a dual core cpu. In fact the i3 550 scored just under the i7 of it's day for single thread gaming because the i3 was 3.2ghz per core over 2 cores and the i7 was 2.2ghz per core over 4 cores.
So you see you can get good gaming even from a budget chip if you build well. But to be safe stick with ATLEAST the i5, especially if you plan on playing any BF4.

yes get an SSD for sure... and remember there is actually an recommended amount of RAM formula per Microsoft.
It is the number of cores x the frequency per core = recommended amount of RAM.
For example an oc'd i5 at 4.5ghz per core x four cores = 18GB of RAM (probably be ok with 16)

Cool looking, I like the front. I have a NZXT Vulcan (in the box) that I Love but barely used lol. I used it like 3 weeks. I now have an Aerocool Dead Silence cube, I build mostly MicroATX.

I like the Areocool cause the board lays horizontal not vertical so I can stack a 190mm tower fan without fear if bending the board or I can sneak in a large liquid cooler up top I got my case first too so the guts are being upgraded very soon
