Ten DirectX 10 products are coming from AMD this May

AMD will be launching ten DirectX 10 capable products towards the end of May 2007. They will be "covering the entire stack" - affordable to high-end - with their series. AMD's Chief Sales and Marketing Officer also commented that "we do not do soft launches," so there will be no waiting for retail stores to have the video cards in stock.

AMD's main competitor regarding video cards, NVIDIA, already has had a series of discrete DirectX 10 cards available to consumers. Although NVIDIA's line does span from entry-level to high-end, they do not have ten DirectX 10 products.

According to DailyTech: there will four entry-level/home-theater and three affordable mid-range cards. Which leaves three possible products, out of the ten, for the high-end niche.

That will get rid of the external dongle. But won't one card still need an image compositing chip to put the image from each card together - this is the CrossFire edition card?

The composing engine is already integrated into the RV570 Core.
So no more CF Editions, and so do no more different card Crossfire.

I think it's excellent news that there will be so many DX10 products immediatly available at launch although TBH I will be surprised if all 10 are available from day 1, never before has a series of cards been introduced with so many variants at the same time, if they can acheive this it really will be something special!

For me it's not to little to late. I haven't bought my DX10 card yet because I have been waiting on AMD/ATi's cards. I thought they were supposed to be here in February or so, but hey I can still wait. I am not aware of any DX10 games at the moment anyways. So imo, at the moment, a G80 card is somewhat a wast of money. They aren't exactly cheap in most peoples wallets. Sure they crush a DX9 title and they may do a pretty good job with the DX10 titles, but we don't know yet (remember the GeForce FX cards anyone?) No matter how tempting a 8800GTS looks to me, I fell the smart choice is to wait for the competition.

Why is it late?Their hard launching their entire DX10 series (low end to high end).They could have launched the r600 months ago but AMD made them wait for the rest.

nVidia didnt do that.Their still launching there low end stuff now.

And I tought that those produts ment games/software More "useless" DX10 cards for running demos, whii Will be kinda bad if they are as fast in SM 4.0 as first SM 3.0 cards were in HDR Bring out some DX10 games and then this is more interesting. Not that there is going to be any faster DX9 cards, but if DX10 card owners are forced to run in DX9 mode to keep framerate up, they won't be happy.

I think Im happy with my card for now.. I was thinking about upgrading right away but I think I'll just oc the hell out of my card got great cooling now all new more powerful fans in.

I think if I bump the mem to 780 I should be doing very well.. hopefully it did own fear @ 1280x1024 when I had it OC'd good.. hopefully it will do good @1680x1050.

Should give me an extra 6 months before I upgrade... in the mean time I can buy other stuffs.

Couldnt have said it better myself GLD. Some people just want new hotness now, and dont care for the wait. They would rather have products out with non working drivers and a big mess than to wait a little while to get working products. I just dont understand this. Nice to see so many at launch. However, Im wanting to see the bench marks on the XTX versus the GTX.

i couldn't agree with both of you any more im waiting till the second gen of dx10 cards come out that way they have plenty of time to work all the bugs out and we can really get a feel for whats good and whats not

Honestly I have no interest in the new line of ATI cards. Before buying my 8800GTX I was purely an ATI fan, but with the recent news and benchmarks I just see no reason for me to switch, I've had zero problems with the 8800. I do hope however ATI comes through, its always better for the market and us when there are more options and competition.

Perfectly put - I too am waiting. It's not because I specifically want an ATI card but because some competition will drive prices down and put the performance of the GeForce 8 series in perspective.

I've historically chosen what gave the best bang for the buck, varying between ATI and Nvidia cards (and between Intel and AMD for that matter), and I Iook forwards to making another informed decision in a few months!

Interesting and quite smooth move by AMD, this will atleast minimize the prices of that overpriced GTX.
