I don't understand. B85 is the basic Business Series Chipset from Intel, not the Consumer series. Why are manifacturers putting business chipsets into consumer-end boards? (not Biostar specifically, in general). It's better than H81 for sure, but still seems odd to me. I guess cost-savings.

the fine print on them simply says Hi-Fi Cap.

Maybe no one noticed but i thought it was kinda cool and discrete that the heatsink is like a piano.

Nice looking mobo, although i would not buy it layouts wrong ( SATA ) for my liking and a lack of fan connections.

There are a lot of folks who don't want to pay a premium for Z87 or Z97 and overclocking, especially if they buy a lower end CPU. So those guys that buy a haswell i3 might want a decent motherboard without the premium of the Z chipset they wont use. Audio can be a good upgrade, especially for those users.

I noticed the piano heat sink, which is a nice touch, also noticed there's no optical S/PDIF, so no good for me either...pretty lame for a board aimed at audiophiles. It has the Realtek ALC892 8-Channel Blu-ray Audio codec, but only 3 audio jacks.

at the low edge, theres a spdif out connector if need be. though optical output is kinda obsolete technology good enough for full stereo or 5.1 max, i think.

I need optical S/PDIF because regular 3.5 audio cables pick up too much interference (power hum, etc.) on the way to my amp. I listen to mostly 24-96 or 24-192 hi-res FLACs, and the noise is annoying during quiet passages. Once I get a decent USB DAC it won't matter, but they start at ~$150...
