Over the next two weeks AMD will slowly begin to introduce its new brand name for the next generation high end desktop K10 architecture. The brand, Phenom, will succeed Athlon on all K10 offerings. Dual-core Agena processors will be labeled as Phenom X2 while quad-core Agena CPUs will receive the name Phenom X4 or Phenom FX. Phenom is pronounced as an abbreviated version of the word "phenomenal." The company will still retain its Athlon and Sempron brand names - Athlon on its mid-range products and Sempron on up the low-end.

Ooer, just the new name change sends goose bumps all over my body. I hope it competes well with Intel. Anything to help it get some profitability. I cant wait I cant wait, damn it man I cant wait!!!

I dont like the name phenom... i liked athlon, duron and sempron... phenom sounds ghey. and it doesnt end in ron like all the others!
 
Phenom doesnt sound gay. It sounds awesome. Look at the pitching phenom. Look at that quarterback phenom. Look at the AMD Phenom, its phenomenal. Muhahaha.

Also, I agree Mandelore, if its a gimmick, Im gonna be really pissed off at AMD.

The WHAT nows? i've never heard of the word phenom and have no idea what your examples are about.

another american abbreviation for big annoying words? I take it its just a mutilated phenomenon.

Oh and neptune: its 2:30am, i'm drinking whiskey, watching anime, and eating pie. Allow me my mistakes. Athron sounds cool tho, i'm sure thats how the japanese pronounce it anyway :D

JK I know what you mean, its hard for each other to pick up on the other's slang.
 
I dont like people who butcher any language. Typos, spelling mistakes, poor grammar... as a personal thing its ok, but no, i dont really like it when it becomes brand names :(
 
Oh well cant please everybody. I hate the internet or text shortening of words, but I believe Phenom is in the dictionary. Of course, we put it there, but hey, to each their own. Sometimes we gotta live with what we got.

Athlon Pentium conroe, venice... all good names. phenom? pssh. Tinkerbell, Tinsel, fairydust... cant wait to see THOSE are names fore cores. (I suppose its good i dont work for a CPU Company lol)

Why cant they just call their chips something like "lightning" (like in as fast as) or "Tornado" if they want to get into perceptions of magnitude.
 
If the Phenom somehow blows away the C2D, then I'll be content with the name. If it flops, well, we might as well invest in consoles 'cause no one's gonna be able to afford Intel's chips.
