i7 3930k very HOT 90c !

hi i have i7 3930k with corsair h100i and i just pot some new Thermal Grease and when i turn on my pc i see the temp is 90c what ealse i can do please?!

Take the head unit off the CPU, repaste, and make sure when you put it back on, you tighten the four screws until they stop spinning. Also be sure the pump is plugged in!

Well, don't over-torque the screws. If you snap the head, you'll regret it. If you strip the head you'll regret it as well. I would be super pissed off if I had to replace a motherboard because I snapped the head off a bolt.

@bigifoot Remove the 100i and clean off all the TIM with alcohol. When reapplying the TIM, use no more than the size of a pea in the dead center of the CPU, the force of the block on the CPU will spread the TIM out to cover most of the CPU. Too much TIM will cause excessively high temperatures, also lifting it off the CPU and placing it back on can introduce air pockets. Lastly, if you're using AS5, it requires several heating/cooling cycles for the TIM to spread to spread out and cure.

Never once had that issue with an AIO, and I have tested about every one on the planet. If you cannot tell when threads stop, maybe installing a cooler is not something you should be attempting.

@bigfoot What is the voltage set to? Also can you list your system specs for this build?

screenshot shows pump RPM, so I would assume it is running. Something has to be way off like voltages, maybe an old bios, plastic layer is still on the block....something!

My bad (was at the gym so didnt check the pic!) Dont think its a plastic layer - Having had experience with a Antec 920. Corsair H80i & H105 Id say maybe the wrong mounting screws were used and there is probably a small gap between the CPU and the base of the waterblock

I dont know about the H100 but if its anything like the H80i or H105 but they dont come with an AMD backplate - They use the stock AMD backplate, all you have to do is remove the stock retention clips around the socket and screw on some standoffs that are meant for your specific socket type. They bundle 3 different standoffs for different socket types and i think thats where the problem is - If not then Its probably something else. Maybe the H100 is faulty.

You are correct, I just went and looked and it does indeed use the stock backplate, but....
The AMD top bracket only has two holes and uses some funky T-screws for mounting.

The rest of the hardware is for LGA115X or LGA2011

@bigfoot When you have the head unit installed, grab it and try to jiggle it, does it move around at all?

So everything was fine, then all of a sudden the temps increased? No bios change, nothing?

@sneekypeet might be right then. The fins on the impeller might be broken so while the pump is spinning, it's not moving any (or very little,) liquid. With high temps like that, the rad should be very warm, if not hot, to the touch.

at this point I would try any other cooler. I am not sure I would spend near $100 US to fix the issue, even a stock cooler would work at this point, or a $20 US Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler. Once you have another cooler on to verify that you can get that CPU cooler than 90C. I would then get with Corsair about an RMA (if you are still in the warranty period).

Hi, can I know what ram and voltage are u running on your config?
and u plug well the power conector(big one Sata) get the radiator aswell the pipes hot? what is vcore voltage?
And yes I have to before problems with my H80i and my P8z68-v Pro cooling my 2700k 5@1.45v, I resolve put 4 rings extra on block backplate for he smash good to the cpu. original no work for me just stay a space between my cpu and block

it's so Quiet and my temp now is 35-37c

Is the AIO still under warranty? If so I would get it taken care of via RMA rather than just throwing that money away. IF anything, once the new one arrives, you could help offset that Noctua cost by selling the new one Corsair would send you.
