Wireless monitor?

i am looking to run a wireless monitor to help clutter and save space since I can put tower elsewhere. I have not found a good hdmi receiver for under $1-200. Does anyone know if there are cheaper ones on the market or are you stuck with the high price tag?

nice vid below showing a fella setting it up and seem to work ok even for gaming

personally i dont have any direct experience with these sets up maybe someone with more knowledge will be able to get you more info

I've used Intel WiDi before but that's about it...honestly I think it would be a bad idea if image clarity and interference are of any concern. I also would imagine that the lag it would introduce into games could go from noticeable to frustrating depending on the game and other possible issues introduced with that kind of signal being transferred wirelessly.

How far away is your tower from your proposed screen location?

There are some very cheap chinese miracast/ WiDi receivers. I've recently ordered one off Amazon, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. Pretty sure it will work for simple tasks like work and movies, but I'm not so sure about gaming. You might have semi-decent FPS, but there is no way around lag.

The only similar thing I've tried was Moonshine (open-source NVidia GameStream client) on my HTC One M7. Latency is noticeable (20-30ms with occasional jumps to 50), but the FPS was relatively smooth. Good for movies and VR headsets.

Not a fan of wireless monitors myself. We have them in the office and they never work right.

Another option to consider is to upgrade your PC to a mini-ITX rig and hide it behind your monitor. There are many ways to build a rig of equal performance in this form factor, except I haven't seen any low-profile GPUs of this class. The closest ones are GTX 750Ti or GTX 950 (perfect for small gaming rig), but still no low-profile options.

Wow that's a good little video there.

I won't be gaming on this machine. It will be for my server I will have tucked away in the media closet. So when I am at my desk I can have access to it without cluttering up my desk and work area with another tower.

Just set it up, and use SSH and RDP protocols, use VNC or something if you need, and use a remote console for your server rather than wireless video... If you use Server 2012 R2, you can use RSAT to remotely manage the server with your Win 7/8/10 machine. Works pretty well. I use a mix of those 3 on my servers when I don't want to go to the other part of the house.

You could also look into a KVM switch if you want to keep both towers at your desk and use the same screen, mouse and keyboard between them. There's a decent 2-way KVM on Amazon for $30 or so... by iO Gear iirc. I have that setup at my back workbench area where I diag/build/repair PC's and run my server. Works great.

I don't know what a wireless monitor is but based on my experience with wireless mice and keyboards I would think that would use a lot of batteries to keep the monitor running.

You should try Teamviewer, RDP (learning how to enable and allow is a good management tool intro), RSAT, etc. All are very useful at different things and are very good to know.
