Check PCGamingWiki and some of the Rockstar and Steam forum posts.

The crashing at startup can be caused by certain recording software conflicts or certain USB wireless sensors like Mayflash DolphinBar.

http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_V#Mouse_sensitivity_tied_to_FPS

https://support.rockstargames.com/h...tions/203307378-GTA-V-only-runs-in-safe-mode-

The 30 FPS lock can be caused by using in game Vsync combined with MSAA on Nvidia GPUs, but also make SURE if you use in game Vsync not to set it to the half version, which locks to 30. And make sure refresh is set to one that is best for your display. Just the difference between 60 and 59 can be huge, as some displays cannot do 60.

With Nvidia GPUs you can also set Vsync to "Adaptive" in your NCP, and just leave Vsync off in game.

Strange, I haven't had one crash since it came out on Steam while running it fullscreen at 1080p, I'm running it on windows 8.1 though.
Are you running it on windows 10?

Have you tried simply uninstalling and reinstalling the game, or verifying the integrity of the game cache?

Benchmark Scores I had some of these once upon a time? Old age has seen me misplace them....
One thing I have noticed, is that sometimes these crashes will lock the GPU in 2D clocks forcing you to restart your rig..... no steps I've taken or tried (while remaining logical lol) will allow the card to select the correct clock profile without a reboot. Release driver 350.xx to the newest 355.xx all do it.

I thought it could be because I'm running DSR@1440... but even running native again doesnt fix things and it crashes just as much...... it just looks so damn pwitttty with its current settings, I cant bare to alter them in an effort to stop it crashing :twitch: lol

Experience: 1.7 million crashes* + A LOT of (frustrated?) game hours.

*Actual number may be about 1.2 million......

Edit - I've also reset my rig to default clocks to check for issues there, it still happens.... I eventually got bored and switched the 970 of mine over to the old X58 rig listed below.... it still happened on that platform, too lol

I initially had issues with GTA like you're having, but that was only because I was using an eight-core AMD processor which the game wasn't optimised for, and it's a CPU-heavy game.
But since then I've upgraded to an Intel CPU and am getting ideal performance.

I don't know why this is happening for you, does this kind of thing happen in any other game?

Are you running it on windows 10?

If you have never had a crash while playing GTA 5 i find that truly extraordinary...

I get TONS of crashes with this game.... but I am almost certain its related to the mods I run with the game.

I have more than half the ingame cars replaced with real life models created in Z-Modeler and also use an FOV mod, a trainer with a TON of extras built into it, and also a Script to lower cars suspension.

Its very intermittent and I cannot pin point it to any specific problem. But it seems there is a memory leak with the game after playing for a certain period of time. Its either the game works fine and doesnt crash, or usually I get a game memory error in the 1st minute of playing.

Its extremely hard to pinpoint why this game crashes, as people seem to be having lots of different issues. I would try the standard google search 1st, as lots of other people have been posting about GTA 5 crashes in various places. (Assuming you havent already)

I almost play it everyday including today.

I only use Script Hook V + Native Trainer https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/script-hook-v

What I do have while playing is a small stutter/fps drop now and then since the updates of the game, when the game just came out I never had a stutter.:ohwell:

Try disabling v sync In game. Enabling it through nvidia cp.

And also running msi afterburner while playing. Use riva tuner to limit fps to 59. Doing this seems to have helped reduce that annoying stutter for me

Thanks, but I use Nvidia Inspector and I have it capped at 41fps, overall smooth gameplay, just a small stutter/fps drop now and then I have tested different fps caps and at 41fps is the smoothest gameplay for my laptop, graphics on high/very high and using about 2600MB of my 3GB VRAM.

This is directly linked with the updates; I've read on PC Gamer that the "Ill Gotten Gains: Part 2" update caused an fps-drop/stutter for a lot of people.

When the game was just out I did not have these stutters/fps drops once I locked the fps at 41 it would run butter smooth.
After the first update IIRC it started with a small stutter now and then, so since the updates the performance got a bit worse than before , at least for me.:ohwell:

However if people keep complaining at rockstar about this they may patch it with an update.

I was having poor performance with my AMD CPU before the updates, then I changed to Intel so I only saw an improvement in performance regardless of the updates :)

Wouldn't be the first time either. That has been the sad state of PC gaming for some time.

Wouldn't be the first time either. That has been the sad state of PC gaming for some time.
Why though?! If they've already got a licensed copy I mean.

for 30fps lock when it happens alt+tab and then back into game, it will start to run normally now.. Btw it runs a lot better in win10.

You mean you've actually never heard of this before? PC development is getting so lazy and shabby that it's not uncommon a cracked exe actually works better than the one that comes with the licensed copy. That's why a lot of PC players are saying screw you and giving them the finger and just playing the cracked copies instead of buying the game. A lot of people say, don't do that, it's not fair to the devs. Well, the thing is, the devs are the ones developing the games in such a bad state, so they're not exactly exempt of guilt in these matters. Plus they make tons of money on their jobs and most of it comes from the console versions that they give most of the Quality Control to, especially regarding AAA titles.

Ahh okay, never heard about that!

I forgot to mention that I get a slight stutter every time I start the game unless I alt+tab out of and then back into the game.
I have to do that every time I start the game.

I initially had issues with GTA like you're having, but that was only because I was using an eight-core AMD processor which the game wasn't optimised for, and it's a CPU-heavy game.
But since then I've upgraded to an Intel CPU and am getting ideal performance.

I don't know why this is happening for you, does this kind of thing happen in any other game?
no it doesn't just gta 5
