EVGA Announces its GeForce GTX 1080 Series

Eh nobody will care once that GTX1080Ti is out

You won't care...lol..
(Honestly seems like you do or why would you say anything in the first place?)

Regardless, I love how often people say things and act like they speak for everyone..

I dont think you know how that "come back" works.
I specifically reacted to another comment about the "classified" version and how it would perform.
I stated that once the real performer, the GTX1080Ti is out, nobody will care about a overclocked lesser product.
That entire market is about getting the best and making it better.
Would anyone care about a GTX1060 Classified? unless its for the same price as the standard I highly doubt it.
If you care for better performance you would just get a GTX1070 or higher.

boost clock is overclock that is why.
Perf gain would be vs boost clock, not base clock, so this metric makes no sense vs base.

Ok, go find a parade and rain on it k, Mr nothing is ever good enough, downer man..
I don't think you get how to not be negative about everything..

Overclock on the overclock?
boost clock is overclock that is why.

No, boost clock is an inherent ability of the architecture to throttle based on a safe temperature target. It is a way to maximize the chip performance within safe constraints, similar to Intel Turbo Boost for a CPU.

Overclocking is clocking a chip beyond the intented clocks with which it is shipped by the manufacturer. You also don't lose a boost bin from overclocking, but you do from temp targets in the stock BIOS for GPU Boost.

And now we get to the core of Nvidia's marketing strategy for GPU architectures. It took awhile...

With Kepler they started 'feeding' on higher clocks to accelerate GPU's and do more with the same amount of transistors. Maxwell added more efficient memory for even more headroom in TDP for higher clocks. Pascal + finfet takes it to the next level and adds another compression layer. But since Kepler, the SMX hasn't radically changed - the only (or main) reason Pascal is faster, is because it can clock higher. This is why we need to be critical about 'what really is an OC' on these cards. It also sheds some light on the 'amount of innovation' in the architecture since Kepler. The difference with AMD's GCN clocks is starting to get staggering.

You'd rather be a hapless, naive consumer that jumps on every product release like a happy little kid? Because that's kind of what you're saying here. Everything he pointed out about FTW and Classy versions of lower tiered SKU's is 100% true.

Do you really want to pay premium for a 'top-end' 'cut-down' chip? Now that is a mind twister... Fact is, if other people can talk you into a 'downer' on something, the product itself was probably a ripoff to begin with and that remark doesn't fit into your current psychology.

Edit: I just noticed you have 2x 980 in SLI right now (worst price/perf last gen, and you did it twice) and are now investing into a single 1080 FTW. Nuff said. You bought premium last round, not once, but twice, and are now doing it again. No sense trying to reason with that ^^ Enjoy your cards - maybe take some Nvidia shares too while you're at it? :)

Not much of an upgrade apart from the power saving.

and to remove the performance x factor that SLI and CF add's in to it.

Not that it's any of your business but I sold my two 980's to fund the one 1080, then when prices come down, I'll get another 1080.. Sli is useless to me right now.
The card also has HDMI 2.0b, which has HDR support, which I want for my 4k TV.
You have no idea why people do what they do, thinking you can read minds?
Regardless, my system look like I'm broke? Why you so mad I have expendable income?
Get over it k..

Everyone acting like they think they can read minds or understand the reason for someones change.. You sound really.. Ugh... I can't say anything nice, so I'l try not to say anything at all..

Not mad, and you should do whatever you like, but it's a different story when you try to defend purchases that really aren't that smart, as smart purchases or call out others when they point out how much you're paying extra for 'nothing' tangible.

There are always assholes like me and a few others that like to point that out, sorry bud :)

Always the sign of an infantile mind when someone has to go to insults, because they are mad they have a shitty job and can't afford to upgrade..
Maybe you should spend less time internet trolling and more time making money..

Apparently I'm smart enough to be able to afford to upgrade and you aren't..

One more for the ignore list...

Seems the insults go both ways. Too bad, wasn't really my point - I'll try to word it more polite next time.

Well, I got mine and it wound up being DOA, now I have to wait weeks again for it to get back to NE via FedEx ground, have it approved and wait yet again for cards to come into inventory to be shipped. Yes, it's a matter of taste, but the FTW is rather an eye sore, but then again, at least the back is a classic design which is all I see. Also, be prepared for a slight disappointment, my card was scratched up prior to the protective plastic on the unit, esp. on the FTW logo, which seems common based on reviews.

Also of note, if you have 4 pin connectors and have to use the 2 adapters, the adapters are pretty bad going into the card (meaning, requires force and a lot of squiggly motion, I recommend to install the power plugs before you insert into the PCI Slot.) The card is also very heavy, slightly over 5 lbs, my short term hack was to use unwaxed dental floss for support mounted to the top of the case creating a harness until I figure something else out.

All-in-all, in hindsight, I should've got the lower end EVGA 1080 part, as the power usage and cable clutter doesn't justify the extra 3-4 frames, I just got it because it was available at the time.

Don't get me wrong, I love EVGA and have owned many of their products, but this FTW model is disappointing let alone the whole process of waiting and now having to wait again. Also, would've been nice instead of stickers, badges and a poster, they provided something useful like 2 DP to HDMI connectors or what Gigabyte did, a separate header with two additional HDMI ports. Would've tried Gigabyte this time, but the Extreme Premium pack is like a Unicorn and now I'm locked into EVGA and this model because of the no refund only exchange policy, all to save a few bucks on tax, next it'll be via Amazon, yep, taxes, but at least you have some flexibility with returns/exchanges.
