AMD APU Memory

I currently have an A8-4500M and with 8GB of RAM the APU seems to only use 512MB of it for the GPU part of the APU. I wish there was a way to increase this but there's no option in the BIOS. This isn't my issue though, I bought an A10-5750M to replace it and was wondering if it this APU used more, like 1GB or 2GB? I remember back in the day the integrated GPU's max allocated memory was based on how much RAM you have, if this is the case for the APU would going from 8GB to 16GB change anything?

There's very little info on the the allocated RAM of APUs, was hoping someone would have some info on this.

Also if there's a way, any way at all, to access the options for allocatable RAM for the APU that would be a big help too.

My A8-5500 on an ASRock board has the option in the BIOS to change it between 32MB and 2GB, as well as auto. Perhaps if you don't have the option, it's in auto mode? Which board are you using?

I would blame the motherboard and not the APU. My AM1 motherboard can assign up to 2GB to the APU graphics. What motherboard do you have?

The APU is an "M", which means it's a laptop. The board is manufacturer is unknown to me, the laptop is ASUS. I would have assumed ASUS to be better than other laptop builders but they're just as bad...

Sorry, is just that you said you were replacing the CPU so we assumed it was a desktop system.

If there is no option in the bios then most likely it's a fixed value and you can't modify the amount of RAM dedicated to the APU graphics.

Have you checked to see if there's a new BIOS for the board in your laptop?

Also: which board is it exactly? Perhaps in the manual you can see any settings for this? Dunno!

In my PC, which also happens to be an APU machine (but not a laptop), i used this setting:

Understandable.

I had hoped someone knew something I didn't. I really hope someone does. ;)
From what I have experience on the APU laptops is that it depends on the brand and motherboard. Most I have seen are a fixed amount if they are not one of the higher end model laptops and contain one of the FX APU's. My friends A8 6410m even gaming (By that I mean playing league) only allocates 512mb where as my friends newer FX 8600p showed 1gb.

Subbed in case someone finds a way for laptops to change the memory anount. I hate being stuck at half a gigaboot.

Unfortunately the BIOS is up to date and it's from 2012... There's no option like that in my laptop's BIOS.

In CPU-Z the model is K55N the chipset is K15 IMC and the southbridge is AMD 08 FCH. It's an ASUS/ASUSTeK laptop/motherboard.

Just checked the model's manual and indeed, it doesn't show any options for this: if there's a way to make this happen, it doesn't seem to be in the BIOS.

If I had experience in coding I would try and build a BIOS myself with potentially freeing the hidden options. I remember there being a website that has people who will help you with this, no idea what it's called now, it's been years since I visited there.
