People who make graphs that don't start from 0 (zero) should be shot in the face or deported to some gulag at the very edge of coldest Siberia. With graphs starting somewhere in the middle, graphs entirely lose all meaning. You may just as well just show a spreadsheet and no graph at all because in the end you still have to look just at numbers because graph makes it look like it's a 3x difference where in reality it's 0.1x...

We wouldn't have seen this card, especially this early, without the RX 480.
Agree.
Which just proves that AMD's speciality is getting things wrong, particularly marketing wise; if your competitor is technically superior (and NVIDIA certainly is so) you should keep expectations low and try to surprise. AMD does otherwise: they create hype, fail to deliver and the green team just has to release sooner and/or lower prices.

Expected performance in line with the big generational jump brought by 16nm node executed so well for Pascal. They can price it whatever they choose in relation with the 480 since it looks a better product than the competition on all levels. The market will decide if it will need adjustments over time.

LOL Fool Edition sounds a bit better though.. ;)

from what i can see nvidia has unleashed their troll army in every post concerning the 480.. good job people, good job.

Nice to see you can do the exact same thing.

But yeah, the GTX1060 will be overpriced because Nvidia can afford to be arrogant. Unfortunately.

This.

Expect the 1060 Idiots Edition at least for $300.
RX 480 is $199 for 4GB and $249 for 8GB. I would bet that GTX 1060 will be around $299 for regular cards and $349 for Founder's Edition. No way Nvidia competes hard on price when they know they can get an extra $50-$100 for every card. It also puts it in a good spot behind the $379/$449 GTX 1070 in Nvidia's Pascal lineup.

Also be aware that GTX 980's that are still being sold will have to get cheaper than GTX 1060 if it will really match its speed, otherwise they'll never get rid of the stock. At which point, grabbing a last gen cheaper is still an interesting option. After all, you'll get the same performance.

Careful with that thought process, LMAO! A certain member will claim you don't know what you are talking about, they are not old model refrigerators, and that they will only lower the price because they are scared of AMD competition, NOT because they are trying to rid old stock. :)

(480) a pretty big dud in performance
Based against what? So if this is 10% more @1440p than a 480 8Gb, and cost close to $300 for a 6Gb justifiable?

980 owners were glad to be able to play games for the past year
If they bought in early 2015, now some 18 month later it works ok. Figure $16 a month isn't bad on a high-end, while not the best it's manageable something like 50% devaluation.

mostly buy x60 line though, rarely x50, depending on my needs and budget
this is the card that 760/770 owner will look to move to. If your a 960 owner not so much unless you intend to take a bath. As in much less than 18mo you'll be hard pressed to recoup 50% of what you paid for it, and you need to find like $200 more to make this happen.

yes i can, that doesnt mean that i like doing it. i like balance, and when i dont see it i try to create it. just count the whining comments and tell me that people do not show bias against the 480. people are not objective by default, its in our nature, we must strive to be objective, as much as we can at least. thinking with ones feelings its not thinking at all.
if you dont like nvidias arrogance try supporting the other camp, companies understand only $ nothing else.

Well, check the 480 review thread, and you'll find there is at least one mostly NVIDIA user who is a fan of the 480. :)

I've also taken the opportunity since Pascal first released to harp on the hubris and arrogance of the Green team and their overhyped prices. I practice equal opportunity bashing and praising.

Good luck with that. I sure hope so for your sake I am wrong, but I believe you'll be lucky to get the 6GB version for less than $299 if NVIDIA follow their recent arrogant releases.

980 owners cant be mad.....actually no high or mid end card owners can be mad. This happens EVERY year. Its a lot less dramatic with cpus but for gpus.... the moment you hand the cashier your money, your successor has been announced crowned and coming soon.

Yea course it does, cause the GTX 960 was really better than the 760 and 670 before it wasn't it.... oh wait. NV ripped people off with the 960, no better than either 760 or 670 and was considerably more expensive than both at the time of release, they can stick their overpriced crap up their Ar$3, I mean 1070 replaces 970 and is £400+ 1080 which isn't even ti is £600+ when they will bring out the ti a few months later and drop prices etc greedy b4stards imo don't even get me started when they bring out their pascal titan ** for $1200..... and they won't be getting any of my hard earned cash. The 480 whilst not all it was hyped up to be is available for less than £200! that will be my next card

im almost certain that it will be, but if its not priced in the 200-250$ it will be also irrelevant even if it is at 300$ it will be too expensive for the majority of the users. if it goes on sale on the 250$ price though.. well then AMD will have a serious problem.
That didn't stop the $330 970 from becoming one of the most popular gpus on steam. Plenty will buy it at $250-300

what 1060 fe? that cooler is really a plastic shroud. Nvdia is in business to make money......they do. Thats why they have a R&D budget. While i thought the 960 stunk.... I really like the sound of this. As long as they come in around $279(wishful thinking)......it will be disruptive to the 480.....If there is a potential of the 480 damaging boards because of power draw(that'll be big mess) this will be kryptonite. Nvdia sets the msrp..... hype, demand and greed dictate what youy pay at counter.

In the end it's a win-win for consumers. GTX 1060 can be all this better than RX480, but if they don't price it somewhat close to RX480, they won't sell any because most people aren't willing to pay that much.
Considering the price difference of previous models, I would guess GTX 1060 will be priced around $250 or less. When it gives better performance, way better efficiency, probably better OC headroom, etc. This will probably sell more than RX 480, 470 and 460 combined... (Remember how good GTX 970 and 960 sold?)

The bigger problem for AMD is that GP106 will be smaller and cheaper to make than Polaris 10. It's also more power efficient, so Nvidia can create a wider selection of binnings out of the chip. So AMD can't push Nvidia on price without loosing more money.

We wouldn't have seen this card, especially this early, without the RX 480.
GP106 was taped out late last summer, so this is exactly right on track. It was supposed to be released before "back to school shopping", so this is exactly as expected.

Competition is good, but this is not an example of an effect from competition. The launch of new chips are pretty much predetermined nearly one year ahead, it can be postponed but it can't be pushed forward, that's technically impossible. Several chips of GP106 has been in QA for a couple of months*, which is the strongest sign of a pending release, so we knew the launch was imminent. The same goes for the hype about Vega, some fans are pretending it will be released 6 months ahead of schedule, which simply can't happen...

*) BTW, we also know a GP102-400 is in QA, so get ready for a new Titan soon.

So 15% faster than a RX480 in best case situations for Nvidia (Assumption made as PR slides always seem to be best case) so likely 5-10% faster across the board. Probably $50 more than RX480 so will sell like hot cakes unless AIB RX480's can save AMD.

More like 25% after OC.

Well the 1080/1070 cards sure seemed to have been rushed, with the unicorn stock that was delivered.

And nvidia knows it doesn't matter. They just need the reviews out.

GTX 1080/1070 was not rushed, it was exactly as planned. The supply is somewhat limited though, not because of yields (which are excellent), but because too much of the production capacity is tied up with GP100.

This should be a real nice card, I suspect it will romp home in VR too compared to that less than exciting RX480.
