Ok, a Sempron is never going to win any prizes for performance, but AMD's latest addition its embedded processor line is a new Sempron 2100+ with a TDP rating of a mere 9-watts. The embedded CPU uses socket S1 and will be ideal for low-cost fanless systems that require moderate processing power without overheating or running up a huge power bill. Admittedly it won't be of much use in gaming machines or servers, but it should be capable of simple office tasks and web browsing, plus it's the first embedded CPU to feature AMD64 technology which may give it a slight edge in some environments. The new processor is compatible with AMD's M690T chipset, with AAEON and Arbor offering boards that are compatible with the CPU. No details of pricing or availability are given, although this will be mainly intended for manufactures to integrate into products rather than end users.

9W!? god...why cant they do that with the r600's...

wow....6-7 hours on a standard 6 cell batteries for laptops doesn't look to far off.

bloody hell.. thought 40+ was good.. nice

for the energy saved on the cpu no doubt the gpu will make up for it.

ehh i don't think so. with any sempron stock, it's pretty hard to go and really run a good game. if they do make this into a mobile solution, it's almost guarnteed that it will be integrated graphics, or low end dedicated. this isn't meant to replace the turion, now if it could preform like turion and have a TDP of 9 watts, that would be amazing.

This is great, AMD is heading in the right direction! I really can't wait for some full-fledge AMD designed graphics cards!

Thats crazy, you can build 100% passive cooling system and still run cooler than active air cooled systems. In a budget laptop this would be great! And even though the performance is lacking, you could OC this bad boy without any heat :toast:

oh yes, the OCing on this sucker would be AMAZING!
W/ aircooling you could pull of some extremely crazy stunts :)

Embedded? Does that mean its integrated into the motherboard or is this standard cpu fare?

also, what socket is S1? is that supposedly their new socket?

BTW. Nice going AMD. Now, if only you could make your graphics cards that low power consuming

Dude, imagine that thing on water, send some serious Volts to it, this Sempron has potential, basically just to see how far we can tweak it:toast: (alright some one get it so we can get a thread about tweaking it :D)

They are bound to be cheap... so I'm sure you guys will buy two or three and be like "oh man 4000volts was too much?"

You know stuff is bad when the cooling cost 10x the processor price...

AMD has the upper hand on this Energy efficient thing :D:p

hmmm, what about a multi-core solution using this cpu? the thermal output would still be crazy low

You could squezze 4 cores in there, and still have less heat output than the lowest current dual cores. That would rock! :rockout:

Except it wouldn't be as powerful :( but its a nice idea :D.

Good for a simple server for a house or small business. Hey you could get 8 cores out of that and it would still be lower than a Athlon X2 3800.
