I wish more laptops would offer overclocking, even if only very basic. Sometimes underclocking, undervolting can be a cool feature as well as overclocking to slightly extend it's lifetime or just push 2fps more out of that game :P

I wonder if this GTX 1070 is a full fat one or some cut down version...

You can always lower the max CPU usage in system power settings. I'd rather have an option to manage battery charging, like the one Lenovo puts in it's laptops.

Also, in Y570, they once did a hardware switch for turning on the secondary graphics - that thing hit the bullseye. You could set in nV drivers to always turn on the better GPU, but keep it off by the switch and use it only when You Yourself decide it is needed.

Glad to see a nice keyboard with separated arrows and numpad with big "0" key.

That is the new recently enabled feature of GTX 1000 (or 10) series.

This laptop is going to be so expensive and not even a TrackPoint.

Not quite. I made an ultra low battery usage setting with CPU never going above 50% and the battery life really improved on that (use it while travelling). And all the cores are working.
 
Just curious. Why does one need 4K on a 17" display??

Neither, it has 2048 shaders instead of the 1920 like its desktop variant.
 
I wish GPU manufacturers wouldn't go "laptop gamers: fuck ya!" and we wouldn't get "laptops" consuming that much power.

I'm assuming they used more cores and lower clocks? That would kinda make sense... Or is it even GTX 1070 for real and not renamed other product?

So, you want GPU makers to refuse to make anything over 75 watt just so laptops can use the biggest available chip? what kind of twisted logic is that?

Perhaps you shouldnt be shopping for laptops with top of the line GPUs then? Just a thought. maybe shop for something with a mid range chip, one that pulls 50 watt, like the 960m? it's not that hard. since in your magic world, that 960m would be as powerful as it got, since GPU makers were beholden to laptops, it shouldnt be an issue.
 
I wish they would stop slapping a decent GPU in slim uni-body laptops and calling them gaming.
Asus and MSI have the right idea with thicker bodies for better cooling, and separate panels for access.

They already make "anything over 75w" for desktop, thank you.
What they seem to have stop making is mobile chips with slightly less perf and drastically lower power consumption.
