Non Rattling 140mm Horizontal Fans with Impeller Facing Up

Looking for a good fan that is 140mm, has 140mm hole spacing, can tolerate being mounted with the impeller facing upwards. My case has a top intake. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have tried:

Antec 140mm: started developing a loud whir after a few weeks. I believe it is sleeve bearing.
Masscool SL-FD14025: rattles bad after just one day despite claim of dual ball bearing.
Yate Loon D14BH-12: bad ass ball bearing 140 cfm fan that is overkill for my needs, cant find slower speed versions, undervolting is hard on my wimpy scythe 3.5 fan controller. Can't find the low speed version of this fan anywhere except in sleeve version.

Is this fan position the most stressful on the motor's lubrication?

try noctua fans,

some NZXT fans i use also last quite a bit of time (2-3years) used as a top intake
i believe its the FN140 version

Scythe has their own brand of fans too.

I dont know for sure if you need to find fans that are designed to have a range of speed or not, if so that made the yate loon a poor choice in that regard. I suggest doing some window shopping at newegg since it has some decent search filters.

Certainly check out Noiseblocker BlackSilentPro series fans. Excellent motors and bearings. Had 2 these fans in harsh hot conditions in horizontal placement and they remained quiet for years. One was exhaust fan on top of miniATX case and another one in PSU acting as exhaust fan for graphic card next to it (in that same miniATX case). They are expensive, but damn good.

Fan blades above or below the fan motor.

Impeller facing upwards means downwards airflow with motor support on the bottom side.

Nice, so that PSU had the impeller facing upwards? Might work then. Going to wait out the Masscool until it dies then look into these. Another irritating thing about the Masscool was the screws were prethreaded into it at an angle, so when I screwed it into my Lian Li's roof it chewed the screw holes out on the roof. Now its got elongated holes so I am using button cap phillips machine screws with a nylon washer, and nuts from the backside, kind of a bigger nuisance to install. I reconfigured it last night so there is less back pressure on the 140 and the rattle isn't nearly as bad.

Figured it would undervolt well, and it does, but it uses a lot of current all the same and the fan controllers 1 amp rating is a bit of a exaggeration even with some heatsinks I added. The other issue is the grill of the roof panel generates a lot of whistle if I run a fan over 1000 RPM. I can undervolt the Yate to silent levels but the mosfet on the controller is burning to the touch.

I'm going to second this. They are pretty quiet (depending which model you get), and happily work horizontally. Cougar also has a couple models that do well horizontal, just be sure to read the user comments.

Silverstlne AP fans should be pretty good. They are hydro bearing. Was running mine for a long time and they never really made too much noise so long as you undervolted them

I have been driving 2x Noctua NF-A14 PWM 140mm almost 24/7 now for a year. facing up on my Kraken X61 cooler. extremely quiet and move a lot of air on low RPM. sleeved long black cables and a 7v Adapter for even lower silent running. good fans.

+1 for the noise blockers. I have a couple of 140 pwm eloops and can vouch for how quiet they really are they also come with sime pretty wicked mounting hardware. I'll get a couple of pictures for you here shortly.

the corsair fans also use mag like the NB's either of them make great choices. I personally like the style and mounting hardware of the NB's though.

I heard BeQuiet fans are excellent as well. I only have one in PSU and it's really incredibly quiet. Might one day go with BeQuiet entirely out of curiosity.

My Phanteks have been running that way for quite some time with no issue
just look for a Fan with FDB, (fluid dynamic Bearings) they are pretty solid ime

also, my Scythe Kaze, and Slipstreams do too.
