You have plenty of headroom for a any single GPU and CPU in the future... but if you are using two, you want that 750-850W range. :)

yea i said I plan to go SLI later down the line. that's why I went for the 850

i went with the evga g2l 850 in the end.
smart move.
f your system needs 300W at full load, you'll need a 600W PSU, because PSU's are most efficient at 50% load.
the 80+ rating system denotes peak efficiency @ 50% yes, but also @20% & 100% as well. ofc im truly NO proffesional @ this, but that is how i understood the definition of the ratiing system...i could be seriously misreading it tho

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
It does NOT denote peak efficiency at those levels. The 20/50/100% thresholds are simply measuring points for the 80+ tiers. When you go up to Titanium, there is a 10% Tier added. Efficiency curves, as stated ad nauseum in the thread, lol, are very flat, to the tune of a 1-3% difference between 20% and 100% load (like the tiers...). Here is the picture from the 80 Plus Wiki...... a good read too. ;)

This is how PSU efficiency curve looks like. It's the same with ALL PSU's. They always peak at around 50%. Real challenge is making them more efficient at lower and higher loads. Which is why they introduced the 10% point because most systems sit at idle and that idle is around the 10-20% region, more to the 10% on the new efficient systems with latest CPU and GPU.

Riiiiiiiiight(ish). But as we have said repeatedly in this thread, the difference between running it at 50% or 80% is like 1-2% on efficiency. You will never make up the cost of buying a PROPERLY sized PSU versus trying to run the thing right at its sweetspot or buying an 'overkill' PSU to have it run more efficient. Math was even done in the thread!!! Now if you go 500W to 700W, the difference is what, $20-30? But you still won't make that up over the life of the PSU.. even F@H/Mining/etc!!! So why buy so much more just to land in the efficiency sweetspot exactly? Makes ZERO sense. None.

and leave me with no headroom for future..no thanks.. im happy with my 850 thanks rather be safe then sorry.. 24 hour use and all

That's what I was saying earlier, as time goes on parts are likely to require even less power, so your headroom will only increase further.

Good catch on that double-post, these Mods need all the help they can get.

That's seems reasonable to me.I wasn't 100% sure on what I posted

considering i want to go sli later down the line i think 850 was the better option.

Can you at least go down as low as 800w?
A Pyrrhic victory, is nevertheless a victory.

i still felt like 750 was not enough and i wanted to be safe. i may not be right but 20 quid extra is not asking alot. plus the unit i wanted dosent seem to come in a 800watt unit.

If you want reassurance that you are safe, why are you looking at 80 Plus Gold Rated when you could go Titanium?

When I built the rig in my sig last summer, I went with the EVGA 850, mainly because I have had good luck with them in the past, and I got a good deal on it at the time too....

However, I have also used Cosair CX550w and Enermax 650 in other rigs for several years too, neveranottaproblemo :)

OP is on 230v, so anything over gold is not really worth it

That Evga 10 year warranty is also more than enough reassurance, i think the only other manufacturer to do this is seasonic, and only on their titanium range

According to OP, there is safety in having more than you need.
Therefore, Titanium offers the most security.

Trend Micro thinks so too, having named their top security Titanium.
