Here are some of the first pictures of ASRock Z270 Extreme4, the company's mid-range socket LGA1151 motherboard based on Intel's upcoming Z270 Express chipset, with out of the box support for 7th generation Core "Kaby Lake" processors, and support for Intel Optane 3D X-point solid-state storage. Built in the ATX form-factor, the Z270 Extreme4 draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS connectors, and conditions it for the CPU with a 12-phase VRM.

The CPU socket is wired to four DDR4 DIMM slots, supporting up to 64 GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory; and two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (electrical x8/x8 when both are populated). The third PCIe 3.0 x16 slot is electrical x4 and wired to the PCH. Three open-ended PCIe 3.0 x1 slots make for the rest of the expansion area. Storage connectivity includes eight SATA 6 Gb/s ports, and two 32 Gb/s M.2 slots. Display connectivity includes one each of D-Sub, DVI, and HDMI. You get a total of eight USB 3.0 ports (four on the rear panel four by headers), and two USB 3.1 ports (one each of type-A and type-C, both on the rear panel). Eight channel HD audio and gigabit Ethernet make for the rest of the connectivity.

Hmm where have all the ITX boards with Z270 chipset gone to?

You know it's a couple of weeks until the new platform is officially launched right? These are "leaks", not official releases...

I would have expected more PCI-E lanes, not just 16, 8, 4 and the rest 1's.

It's more like 16, 8, 4, 4, 4, the rest 1s.

Ok, this motherboard looks good.
I hope the rest of their higher end boards look this good

Looks like an Asus motherboard to me. Yes I know of ASRock's beginnings but I thought they were past that,..

I was kinda hopping that they followed the same color scheme as the previous extreme series, but looking pretty good to me.

yeh ik that, but if several manufactures line up keeps seeing the light of day and they r all atx boards that's kinda weird tbh.

AsRock never was as part of Asus. That is a common myth.

Why no DisplayPort? Is there a reason?

Are you planning on running iGPU with this board? :p:laugh:
If you buy this board you need a nice graphics card with that which will have DisplayPorts.

To me yes, well until you take that plastic crap of the ASRock board then no.

Although no need for upgrading personally so.

I didn't actually say that it was,...

Also nothing changes the visual similarities between many of their early motherboards and this motherboard looks like it was designed by Asus.

AsRock is owned by Pegatron. Pegatron is a spin-off company owned by...

I love my Asrock z75 pro3.

The layout and only 2x Sata3 6gb/s ports are the only thing I don't like about it...
And the fact that the PCIE Crossfire is a gimped x16 3.0/x4 2.0 configuration. (not a huge deal breaker, but it does kind of suck...)

I may upgrade to this one when the time comes.

I'm sorry, what was that again?

ASRock was originally spun off from Asus in 2002 in order to compete with companies like Foxconn for the commodity OEM market. Since then, ASRock has also gained momentum in the DIY sector and plans for moving the company upstream began in 2007 following a successful IPO on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.[2]

In 2010 it became part of Pegatron.[3] Asrock currently produces consumer, server, workstation and HTPC motherboards.
