Is this a good price for this X58 bundle (208 USD for it all)?

So after having the I7 920 i have now for 8 great years and it still chucks away like elefants on a stampede throw a city.

I am beginning to have that feeling of i want to try something else. But my buget is low and i still love X58 to bits. Its old but it is so stable and overclock so great + performence is not that bad.

So i have found a X58 bundle i think would be an overall nice upgrade from something old to something just i bit newer but not by much off cause.

My current setup consist of:

I7 920 @ 4.4 GHz (but mostly 4.2 GHz cause of heat)
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme CPU cooler with 2 120 MM silverstone FM 121 fans.
Asus Rampage 2 extreme ROG motherboard
12 GB (6 x 2 GB dims) Corsair DDR3 1600 MHz 1.65 volt rate 9-9-9-24 timmings. Totally non special ram at all.

That bundle i have found to a price including shipping of 208 USD:
I7 980X
Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler
ASUS P6X58D Premium motherboard (a second gen X58 motherboard)
Corsair DDR3 12GB 1600-999 Vengeance K3 memory (3 x 4 modules)

And in my opinion and overall better setup. better CPU with 6 cores and a better CPU cooler at least what i know. Second gen X58 board that gives me Sata 3 and USB 3.0 in sted of sata 2 and USB 2.0 i have now. Memory shut also be a bit better aswell and since it is 3 x 4 GB modules alows me to get more memory if needed.

The old parts can be sold for like the half of the 200 USD or is that to much to exspect?
and by that hold the total money spend down aswell.

What you guys think about it?

Not a super duper upgrade but that is a dang good deal all day long in any country! But your current mobo Asus Rampage 2 extreme ROG motherboard is better than the other one.

yeah i know it is not at super upgrade, you get what you pay for... About motherboard sure the old rog board is a solid oc´er but it dosent have USB 3.0 or sata 3. Off cause i would better like to have a ASUS RAMPAGE III EXTREME but that is not in this bundle and i can not be to picky. My buget dosent allow for that and i realy want sata 3 and USB 3.0. So it is with mixed feelings i am letting my ROG board go. Les oc for USB 3.0 and sata 3 is the price i must pay + with the rog board i risk of crasing te board cause it needs a bios flash before it can go along whit the I7 980X, that risk i dosent have with the new used board.

But great it is a good deal.

If you have the cash to invest untill you can offload your old stuff ( you wont your keep both :) ) then splash out on it

Great, i can afford it and no i will not be keeping both (only keep for a safety reason if the cpu or the other motherboard dies, it is old so cut happen).

Well the 980x will be fast enough that you shouldn't miss your old overclock anyway. GL!

I have the ROG ii now and i had a P6T deluxe.....i got exactly the same overclock with all the Xeons i tried in both.

In the UK the ROG is worth about 50 bucks more than the P6T

The hole idea where to get both a cpu and a mobo second gen x58. Cause i wanted USB 3.0 and sata 3 and that i can get with that modo in the bundle + with my old mobo i need to do a bios flash and with that fucking it up before it is compitable with the I7 980X cpu. So keeping the old board is both greater risk and less features. That is why i desided to change mobo also.

And i am talking from bad exspirience. I have tryed and fuck one mobo up after bios flash. I am not gonna do that again.

And besides an I7 980X can do 4 GHz aswell and more also + with an I7 chip you are 100 % sure that it will work in any X58 mobo. Xeons maybe not work in all non server/workstation boards.

Yes i know and it is also a good point. In fact i would have chosen a xeon if i dit not found this kit with it all in one deal. Cause xeon tend to oc very well and maybe even run less hot + they can be found on ebay for dead cheap.

I loved my X58A-OC and that is a good deal, but don't expect SATA 3 to make a huge difference since old Marvell controllers are used to implement it. Just to think back on the abuse I put mine through...it just wouldn't break.

So what you are telling me is that the sata 3 ports will not give full speed?

I know they dont support raid but would else have been nice with two ssd in raid 0.

That sounds nice and clock is the same i see.

But why are you running dual channel memory or only two ram modules in a triple channel ready platform?

So what you are telling me is that the sata 3 ports will not give full speed?

I know they dont support raid but would else have been nice with two ssd in raid 0.

I couldn't get anything past ~400 MB/s.
