Certain games locking up system on game exit with black screen

Ok, this is too peculiar to be a random thing. And I got this with a second game. First it was game LIMBO freezing my system on game exit and now it's Tower Wars. First one is powered by Unity Engine and second by Torque 3D. And they both exhibit exactly the same symptoms.

When I exit the game, all I get is black screen and NOTHING responds. Not Alt+Tab, not Ctrl+Tab, not Alt+F4, nothing. Only way is to reset the system. The thing is, I had MusicBee playing music in the background and the music was playing forward like nothing happened to the system. Play/Pause and next/prev multimedia keys didn't work either, but the MUTE key did work.

Since it's not a crash as such, I can't retrieve ANY info from crash dumps or event viewer since nothing happens.

Anyone else experiencing this or having access to either of these two games for a quick test?

Using ForceWare 378.66 WHQL.

Does it happen when the System is NOT over clocked?
EDIT Also do you have the OS set to High Performance as power saving options have been know to cause this behavior.

Why would High performance power plan do this?
no just the opposite...power saving plans can. I have know idea why tho but reading on this issue it has been mentioned a lot.

I'm not using power saving one, I have the Balanced one by default. Hm. I'll try this if it's really a thing...

EDIT:
Nope, still locks up with black screen even with High performance power plan...

Is the system still over clocked?

Try lowering your memory clock speed on your GPU. I could force the same sort of thing when I first got my GTX 1070 as its a card with the lower quality Micron memory and it had a bug where it would crash when switching to lower power modes. Particularly when alt tabbing out of games. It was fixed with a GPU BIOS update.

It's not the overclocking and it NEVER was an issue.

I however did find what's the cause of this retarded freezing on game exit...

The reason i use this setting is because I have a 144Hz screen and running games at 60Hz is just the worst thing ever for my eyes...

Wow, how did you figure it out?

I've reset all the NVIDIA settings just to rule them out of the equation. And then it didn't freeze. So, I've systematically changed most likely settings. First the V-Sync modes and the Multi-display/mixed GPU which I always change to Single Display and Fast V-Sync. And since it was still working, I figured, only thing left was this refresh rate thing. I kinda suspected this with Tower Wars (but not with LIMBO) because in Tower Wars, game only supports 60 and 75Hz via in-game settings.
So, there you have it. Not sure what will this mean for my 144Hz experience in games that don't have refresh settings. Will it run at 144Hz or will it default to 60Hz. I'll have to observe a bit...
