After introducing Rift at a less than amenable price-point, consumers with an eye for VR have been left with the slight hope of decreasing product prices over time (I know I have). Now, Oculus has announced a "slash" in the Oculus Rift pricing - though this isn't as much a straight-up price slash as it is a bundle deal. Case in point: Oculus appears to have stopped selling standalone Oculus Rifts.

Before, you had to pony up 600$ for the Oculus package, with an extra $199 cost for the Touch controller package. After Oculus has moved an estimated 200,000 units, apparently the company is willing to entice more users by now selling a complete Oculus Rift + Touch controllers package for the same price as a standalone Oculus Rift would go for - $600. The company also slashed the price of the standalone Touch controllers to $99 (from the $199 they launched at) and dropped the price of the extra Constellation cameras from $79 to $59.

get it while its ... already cooled off... :(

after the scandal with Zenimax coz someone "stole" their source code for making Oculus Rift, I doubt people will be buying their products.

VR is dying already.

Good! Now let's focus again on solid games, and not half assed tech demo nonsense. Twas fun while it lasted though.

nope.

still nothing, well we didn't even get the original 100$ slash price ... so why would we get another cut.

price cut announcement on the internet are ... not really credible :D if the tendency is not reflected and followed word widely ... otherwise welcome in a world with some country where price drop are nonexistent, hardware prices goes up rather than down, and not only RAM prices and get 550$ 1070/800-900$ 1080/ and probably 1200$~ 1080Ti

also a price reduction on that ... even free i wouldn't get that one ...

i rather get the OSVR HDK2.0 (albeit being labeled as Razer OSVR ... WHILE IT'S TOTALLY NOT A RAZER PRODUCT! otherwise it would fall apart after 1 week of use) and tinker with it than a RIFT or a VIVE (vive maybe ... )

I dont want VR to move on, I still want to experience VR porn.
PORN FTW!

Me and younger bro got a Vive which is good fun, but with current games it's not that exciting. Fallout 4 VR this summer will be awesome though :D

$600 is still way too much for a fancy pair of Wii controllers and an already outdated VR headset.

Are these all those silly cardboxes that I suspect make you dizzy?

So much haters of VR yet i bet none of you haters have tried it.
Look we get it...you like it. You're the 1% here...Come back when there is a significant game library and not a pile of tech demos. We'll see if it's around long enough for that to happen

The VR hype is cooling off.

What, the people who like it aren't allowed to comment now?

Nope. You and the haters are the 1% who won't embrace any new tech out of your comfort zone.

I love VR, just hate Oculus for failed promises and outrageous pricing policy.
Well, a slight correction - I hate Oculus for selling out to facebook. The rest is the consequence of this acquisition.

That's what "being a PC enthusiast" is all about. Simply bitching about VR without any firsthand (or second-hand, in my case) experience is stupid.

Not a hater at all I will buy VR as I've said as many times as you've called people out as haters, IF it makes it to Gen 2 then it's worth my money. Now it's a just an expensive novelty item that would sit next to my wheel, my HOTAS and my TrackIR 5 waiting for something worthwhile to use it with. As of right now the press has been pretty clear it's not been a success. Don't mistake my negativity with reality. I'll be right there with you will if there is a "Vive 2" IF...

There doesn't need to be a Vive 2, just more games, which are en-route. And don't listen to the press so much, they love to hate on things, anything they say that is controversial gets them a butt ton of clicks remember :)

Well personally im not hating on it, I just recognise its not the second coming as it was hyped to be.
Much like 3D televisions/monitors, I just dont see it going anywhere.
There are plenty products that were amazing that sadly went nowhere, VR is one of those I expect.

I tried the Vive last week at a convention. Two booths, one was VR of a baggage handling facility at an airport, you could grab bags and toss them everywhere. Fun mayhem, but I would have quickly bored of it. Then a walktrough of a building. Not much detail but kinda cool.

Now... second booth was running Google Earth VR... that made me want to buy the Vive

Sorry press was the wrong word. The industry in general has not been jumping all over it. Even big players like Gaben himself says it could easily fail. Now AR on the other hand that has some real potential if they get it right.

NOW I'll buy the touch controllers.

TY oculus!!

I have tried VR about 5 times and quickly got bored with it. The 4th time it gave me such a huge headache, I was dizzy for about 20min after I took VR set off. The next time the headache wasnt so bad but I wont be trying it anymore in the future.

It was fun for the 1st 10min but it wares off very soon. Some people wont try it or wont try it anymore due to headaches or other medical conditions.

VR sets are 3lb head sets right on your head. I tried one of the Rift models, dont know which kind but it was very unconformable on my head.

I'll pass on VR, at least I tried it. Wake me up when holodecks start making the rounds.
