You said your "monitor powers off". That is totally different from the computer shutting down. So what is really happening? Is your monitoring really "powering" off, or is your computer shutting down and no longer sending a signal to the monitor?

If you really suspect the monitor, you need to try a different monitor.

The Tcase max for that CPU is 72.6°C so 80°C is high and needs to be addressed (don't know where Derek got 89°). I do not recommend applying new TIM unless you somehow broke the cured bond. And that does not normally happen except through abuse - bouncing the computer off the floor, or, ironically, breaking it loose by twisting the CPU cooler too hard to see if it is loose.

What are you measuring your temps with?

Have you checked your BIOS Setup Menu under PC Health (or something similar) to see if it is set to shutdown when some temperature threshold is breached?

You need to make sure your fans are spinning properly, the case interior is clean of heat trapping dust, and your case is supplying an adequate supply of cool air flowing through the case first. TIM does not suddenly go bad - unless the bond was broken. Nor does it need regular replacement.

Edit comment: fixed typo.

When doing other things :watching movies, doing graphics work it stays on
THE MONITOR BLANKS OUT .
The CPU stays on.
Will check the bios soon haven't done that

Okay, so the monitor is still working and displaying what it is receiving - which is nothing.

It would be good if you answered all the questions we've asked.

How is it stopped? Do you have to do a hard reset or can you alt+F4 out of the game and it returns to normal? I have a feeling I have had the same problem, and I wonder if it was the 8800GT that was dying or if that was the weird motherboard issue...

don't know where Derek got 89°

Check the screenshots. The first image shows 3 of the 4 cores at 89*C.
At first I thought the caps may be going bad in the monitor, but now I'm thinking it may be GPU load related and the card is shutting down. IIRC unless you change the settings, isnt video played at a lower clock than games? The "graphics work" should get the clocks going if speaking of GPU rendering, but I'm not sure that's what we are talking about.

It sounds dust related to me, take off side and blow it out with a shop vac if you have one. Make sure to hit the PSU to.

sounds and seems like dust build up and now failing to cool properly. I would also check Event Viewer system logs for System and Apps for error during the time period of the issue.

It seems to me that your monitor is OK.
Something is overheating and that might be your CPU, GPU and even PSU if it's clogged by dust. 89°C is fairly high for any CPU. Download CPUID HW Monitor, start the program, check temperatures before and after gaming and upload a screenshot (with temperatures) so we can make some better conclusions.

Thanks guys
I changed my heatsink fan and re applied

Which seemed to have dried up.
Dried paste does not need to be replaced(*). The only reason TIM (thermal interface material) comes in a semi-liquid form is so you can squeeze it out of the tube and spread it evenly across the die. If it does dry, the solids that are left behind are still doing their jobs - that is, occupying the microscopic pits and valleys in the mating surfaces, preventing insulating air from getting in.

So if just replacing the TIM fixed this, it is probably because the cured bond of the old TIM was somehow broken. This can happen through rough handling, accidental kicks and bumps, or ironically, by the user twisting the heat sink to see if loose. Some TIMs will lose a few degrees of effectiveness after several years, but not one TIM maker, cooler maker, or CPU maker suggests or recommends regular replacement just because the TIM is X years old, or dried. And if the few degrees of headroom gained by replacing the TIM prevents further thermal issues, then there was (and may be still is) insufficient cooling in the first place.

But what typically happens when replacing TIM is the cooler and perhaps case interior is thoroughly cleaned too. So the combination of fixing the broken bond, cleaning, and new TIM does the trick. In your case, your heatsink fan may have had worn bearings too, and not moving enough air as well.

At any rate, I am glad you got it sorted out and thanks for posting your followup.

I've had such problem with several years old Samsung LCD. Monitor had a swollen/leaking capacitor. Replacing with a new one solved the problem. Open up the monitor case and check for any swollen or leaking capacitors that look something like this (could be just a bit swollen without any leaking brown electrolyte or not swollen with tiny brown spots on top).

Example:
swollen_leaking_capacitors.jpg

If you're ok with solder iron, it's a potentially easy and cheap fix (cost me like 10 or 15€ including gas to go and buy the capacitor I needed hehe). If all of them on monitor circuitry look fine, then it could be something else. But since then, I always check state of capacitors, especially if device is 5+ years old.

THE MONITOR BLANKS OUT.
"Blanks out"? At first you said it turns off, that's not the same as blanks out, which sounds more like BSOD.

I once had a problem with a MSI 660 Ti I bought not recognizing my Panasonic TV as HDCP compliant. The result was I would get BSOD when switching between PC and TV inputs. Unplugging the video cable and plugging it back in fixed it, but I had to refund the GPU to Newegg due to apparent incompatibility. No other GPU I've used on this TV has had such problems.

Yeah, that's important difference. It's why I recommended checking capacitors in monitor. In my case it literally turned itself off (physically). If it just blanks out, it's probably something else...
