If you are feeling nostalgic or want to see what all the fuss was about regarding those legendary Quake games, id Software has you covered. In looking for extra knowledge on how to fine-tune its game and servers, the game developer is asking that you sign up for the challenge, which you can do on the game's website. Even though there has been a closed beta already for close to a month, if you didn't make it, now is your chance.

The tech test will start on May 12 and run through May 21, during which time you'll be able to play anytime throughout the testing period. In the game, you'll find three game modes the Beta testers have already driven into their minds and quick trigger fingers - Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Duel. However, id Software is debuting another, fourth mode, Sacrifice, which pits two teams with four players each. Expect some nuances on the details of this game mode's workings, but if an image is worth a thousand words, a trek through the game should be worth slightly more than that.

As probably TPU's greatest Quake fan I gotta throw this out there.......This isn't 1998 anymore. This Quake flat out sucks and doesn't deserve the Quake moniker. All I felt playing the closed beta was sadness.

It might not be 100% quake. But it's actually fun.

I used to play UT and Quake back in the days, I spent tens of thousands of hours in those games.

But if you compare QC to OW or CSGO it's still unique, it's still fast paced FPS and honestly the champions (ignoring a few balance issues) are actually pretty well designed and their abilities don't always result in kills or escapes like many do in OW.

It's at least an arena shooter that brings back alot for the oldskool crowd while still providing enough to bring in newer gamers and actually make money.

Well the speed cap certainly sucks, it is what I hate the most... The "new duel" mode is plain wrong, and I'm confident that they will change it to something closer to the classic duel. I hope that the game will improve...

I am rather certain they would make a heap load of money by just "digitally remastering" the original Quake or even Quake 2.....
