EVGA at its Computex 2017 booth showed off its premium socket LGA2066 motherboard, the X299 FTW. The company also unveiled its micro-ATX X299 Micro. Built in the ATX form-factor, the X299 FTW is positioned below the X299 DARK, and features a clean layout with conveniently located connectors. It draws power from a pair of 8-pin EPS connectors besides an optional 6-pin PCIe, and the 24-pin ATX. The CPU socket is flanked by eight DDR4 DIMM slots, and four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots. An open-ended x4 and another x1 make for the rest of its expansion.

The X299 FTW is characterized by a groovy RGB LED lighting system that covers not just the PCH heatsink, but also the CPU VRM heatsink, and the I/O shroud, which runs the entire length of the motherboard. Storage connectivity includes two 32 Gb/s M.2 slots (a 110 mm and an 80 mm, each); two 32 Gb/s U.2 ports, and eight SATA 6 Gb/s ports. Other connectivity includes two USB 3.1 ports (including a type-C port), eight USB 3.0 ports, high-grade onboard audio with Realtek ALC1220 codec; and two GbE network interfaces.

The X299 Micro, on the other hand, is EVGA's only micro-ATX socket LGA2066 offering, for now. It draws power from a single 8-pin EPS connector, besides the 24-pin ATX. The CPU socket is flanked by four DDR4 DIMM slots supporting quad-channel memory; and three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots, two of which are x16, and the third being x4. Storage connectivity includes a 32 Gb/s M.2 slot, a 32 Gb/s U.2 port, and six SATA 6 Gb/s ports. High-grade audio and Intel i219-V-driven GbE make for the rest of it. The VRM heatsink and I/O shroud are studded with RGB multi-color LEDs.

asus and asrok manage to put 2 and even 3xm.2 slots on ITX boards. EVGA can't even get two on an mATX....

I find the lack of mATX x299 motherboards very disappointing. Right now seems like this EVGA is the only choice.

I'm begining to think RGB must stand for Retarded Glowing Boards.

Hmm...I think this would b perfect for one thing though, an Expanse themed build. It looks a lot like the proto-molecule.

RGB is fine if done tastefully, so far only Asrock seems to understand less is more.. The Gigabyte boards look clean and somewhat OK IMO but still to much..

To be fair ASUS didnt release a solid matx X99 variant until a full year after EVGA, ASROCK, and Gigabyte released theirs. I'm afraid it's gonna be the same trend :(
