Hi everyone – i need some help

I have a Msi gaming laptop and i replaced my GTX 780M [faulty] graphics card for another GTX 780M graphics card [bought on eBay 2nd hand]

I have Windows 10 64bit and the graphics card is not registering – it shows up as standard display driver

Hardware ID's are
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&SUBSYS_05AA1462&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&SUBSYS_05AA1462
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&CC_0300

I have tried using different drivers from Nvidia but the installation fails to detect the graphics card.

Any ideas :S

I have attached my graphic card details i got from GPU z

Thanks

Hi there

My laptop is not under warranty - would they still help ?

Thanks

Yes. Or at least you would receive better answers from them regarding their hardware then here.

They might blacklist their bioses so you might need a whitelisted bios or replace the faulty part with another thats exactly the same

The driver for the Graphics card is integral in the Laptops BIOS.
You cannot download drivers from Nvidia and expect them to work.
You may need a custom BIOS written, or install a GPU that is identical to the one you removed.

What he said^

The graphics BIOS is integrated in the laptop BIOS.
Not much you can do about it, you would need an exact graphics card that comes from the same laptop model for it to work.

You are talking about modifying a laptop BIOS which you just can't do that easy.

You will need an exact graphics card that came out the same laptop model as yours, this would be the only way it would work.

Laptops with Discrete Video Cards (MMX slot ect ) do not have a Bios built on the Card
As others have Said
the Bios is Part of the motherboard Bios
you have to fit a Authorized Replacement Part that the Bios Reconise
this may be restricted by a white list of SKU held in the Bios

you Card has these hardware id's ( so you list)
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&SUBSYS_05AA1462&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&SUBSYS_05AA1462
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&CC_0300

The original Card must match these or as you found out it is not Reconised

Nada, some actually do have the SPI flash onboard.

@Newbie1986

Give us the picture of your old card, I have a feeling IC swap will be needed.

An ini file is a file with properties a program reads. Example: in some games the game settings are saved in ini files.

And we want pictures of the card itself.

1)
regarding GPU-Z screenshot: the tool has a camera button with upload function

2)
to test compatibility with NVFlash open GPU-Z / advanced / NVIDIA BIOS
incompatible GPUs give a warning "wrong parameter", compatible GPUs show useful information

3)
your SUBSYS ID doesn't exist in generic drivers like 382.53
therefore you have to modify the INF of the driver (not INI) or grab it from here
also you must disable driver signatures and install via "have disk method"

Hi everyone

Thanks for all the help , much appreciated.

i was finally able to get the graphics card working by modifying the nvami.inf file on the 382.53 drivers {Thanks Stefan}

The only downside is i have to keep doing this every time NVIDIA releases a new driver :(

But really happy the graphics card is working :)

Yaay :D

No problem.
Just out of curiousity: what's the result when you open GPU-Z / advanced / NVIDIA BIOS as i suggested earlier?

That looks good.
You should be able to save the BIOS or submit it to online database. So you have a backup just in case there is a problem in future.
Therefore hit the button with arrow between "BIOS version" and "UEFI" in GPU-Z

Don't worry about having to modify the driver, same thing was going on with Mobility Radeon Parts in 2004
