Nintendo has continued its recent console success throughout May, with the DS taking top spot and the Wii in a comfortable second in terms of sales. The Nintendo DS sold an impressive 423,000 units and the Wii 338,000 units, with the PSP next in line with 221,000 units, ahead of the PlayStation 2's 188,000 units. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are continuing to lag behind, with Sony's latest console on just 82,000 and the Xbox 360 on 155,000 units - the PS3 only beat Game Boy Advance figures by a mere one thousand units. Sales in May totalled $815.5 million, up 49% compared to figures from last year - a strong month for the games industry.

Why won't the console manufactures take the hint and realize people don't want $500+ gaming consoles?

Works for me, me(29) and most of my similarly aged friends all have a wii because they are just fun..you dont have to invest hours of your time (most ps2 and ps3 games) to get anywhere(except for zelda). Plus, i get to play galaga and blazing lazers on my wii....two games that bring back great memories...

I have been wanting a Wii for a very long time. Still see shortages of them here and its going on what, 8 months?? My PS3 and Xbox 360 play me comfortably right now, so no biggie there.

This reminds me of old times when it was mainly NES and Sega. NES dominating that age.

i am very happy for Nintendo being a fan but when games like GTA5 or MGS4 come out and the price of the rival consoles begin to fall to reasonable affordable prices i really do believe the Nintendo Wii bubble will bust and the downfall of the Wii will be the fact it is this generation hardware.

The only thing that makes me consider a Wii is just super smash bros...hopefully it will be great. But the thing that i dont like Nintendo is that its a kiddy console, lack mature games.

Gee, I wonder if the fact that those are the 2 cheapest consoles has anything to do with sales.

The DS and the Wii are not even good enough to compete with the PSP and the PS3.

you say they cant compete, the graphics my be years and years ahead but it apeals to the older generation as its easy to use, and the younger geration as not many kids get a £300 birthday present and can get a £50 game every time one comes out!! i would say ps3 and xbox are for ages from 15-25 mainly with people playing it upto the ages of 50 who are used to the interface!

the fact that they sell more is great i thought the makers of mario would go bust years ago but there loyal fans in japan kept them alive and now look at them!

in britain, manhunt 2 on the wii has been banned, because you have to do the killing actions with the controller.go figure

If you're saying that the DS is for kids, I'll agree with what you said.
But the PSP has MUCH more than just better graphics. It's the ultimate hadnheld device. Comparing it to the DS is a joke.

plus big film studios/companys in the usa are trying to get a deal for wi-fi streamed films to the psp.and a psp with a custom firmware and a 4gb stick is a killa portable.

its the ultimate handheld device...probably not. it is good in theory, but first and foremost it is a portable GAME console. and the biggest problem is that its library of games, to even be nice, mostly suck. Though, i will probably buy one, with the exclusive god of war game, then trade it in for more wii fare.

I dunno, of the 10 people I know who own a DS, over half of them are over 20 years old. I still think the wii makes sense. I'm a college student, I don't have the time to invest in first person quests like I used to, quick pick up and play games are right for me. If I find that I have time some day, I could even enjoy some of the more mature and involving games like Zelda, or the next Metroid.

Do I sense a Sony fanboi here? At the end of the day, the lower price is obviously what people want. People talk about it as though it's a bad thing.
