Electronics Arts announced that pre-ordered copies of its upcoming flagship motorsport simulator "Need for Speed: Payback" will feature exclusive graphics effects not found on copies bought after its release. The pre-order page for the game lists out benefits for paying for the game before reading or watching a single review from a neutral source; including "the platinum car pack," a selection of exclusive vehicles, and a curious-looking "exclusive tire smoke."

While giving away bonus content, a tiny headstart in the game with more in-game currency or items, isn't new to pre-orders, this is one of the first times that a big production title is presenting exclusive graphics effects, the tire smoke color in this case, that otherwise won't be available even on machines with the most powerful hardware, or the most powerful consoles. If successful, this model could lure more gamers toward pre-orders of untested and unproven games.

I hope it's just smoke with a different color (this one looks blue) or I see a shitstorm incoming.

I honestly can't imagine them gimping their own game for some preorders. What will a new player who didn't preorder think when he doesn't see any smoke from his tires while some people have it? It just sounds too ridiculous to be true and probably just a bad add.

Insert "it's time to stop" here.

The pirates will crack this game just for this "DLC" just to spite EA because of the low they have sunk to.

Mark my words.

Can someone tell EA never to go full retard

Can someone tell EA never to go full retard
It's far past too late for that.

NFS is dead to me and has been since the mockery that is the Most Wanted (2012) abomination.

I see this news and I look and I can't bring myself to be surprised "leaves"

And fck you too.

I find it hard to believe that non pre-orders won't have tire smoke. Pre-order tire smoke is probably a different color or something.

If true though, lol.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah one would think so, but you never know. Sad part were not sure about that. I'll get it but i will get it 3-4 years later when they give it away like they did with the last one.

Exclusive Platinum Blue Tire Smoke
Then I'm fine with it. It's just TPU going head over heels into the EA-hate bandwagon.

They are not removing smoke, lol

EA earned it. :P

Time to vote EA as The Worst company in the World again for 2-3 more consecutive years.

It was pretty obvious that EA meant a tyre smoke colour, not the smoke itself.

More like it's dead since the first Underground. Even HP 2 from 2002 was bad, but at least it kept the feeling of previous games.

Anyone buying these retarded "premium" editions for 20-30 bucks more that literally don't offer ANYTHING extra should be slapped and reminded they are retarded idiots.

I'll probably still buy it because there is literally no fun racing games other than everyone jerking on Forza and other similar boring games with no fun elements and cops. But I sure as hell won't pre-order it. Or order it from Origin. I'll buy it from some alternate site where it'll be like 25€. And I'll probably still get this stupid blue smoke because versions there are usually pre-order copies. So, F U EA.

Just say no to EA pre-anything, big FAIL!

Its smoke and mirrors. How ironic.

I was thinking about buying the game, but EA just ruined it for me.

Heu... Ubi$oft is clearly the winner, EA is no match against it.

Hey, Ubisoft is about the only AAA publisher putting out stuff worth playing anymore. :P

Aaaand EA shows the middle finger once again.

I would still like them to edit this clear fake news. Not just removing it but also apologizing would be the right thing to do.
I smell EA fanboy. They've dug their own grave and everyone is watching and waiting for them to jump in. I vote we start a chant saying "do a backflip!"

I'm not at all but enjoy your circle-jerk. Keeping this false news story up is beneath anyone who calls themselves a journalist. But I guess TPU is just a forum where you can post anything. No matter how much you hate EA, spreading fake news about them makes you 10x worse in my book.
