If I had not already replaced my 6600K with a 78000X I would be nabbing the new coffee lake but my 7800X will have to last me another year or two.

You couldn't save little more for i7-7820X.
I would not go on i7-7800X, maybe because I have 6 core and logic option is more cores, at least 2.
But if you had model with only 4 cores than for you is OK to add little more power.

6 cores has shown to improve fps in some titles (especially the quad core vs the hexacore ryzens), additionally it is a new process, and you have 50% more cache on top of that... It is the most significant upgrade intel has had since sandybridge.

Hmm I wonder whether I should keep the current system, cause when I bought it the yearly basis upgrades from Intel was minimal, like from 3770k-4770k-6700k etc., I upgraded from my Nehalem 950, which I used for five years or more, bought the 6700k with same mind, use it for at least 3-4 years before next upgrade. But now if games do utilise the six cores and twelve threads and six cores become a norm and games start to bottleneck on a four core chip then I will be sad.

Now at the same time if AMD keeps up with the competition then probably next time this year Intel will release a upgraded Coffee Lake with 8C16T format and still be affordable and then that might become the norm.

If it's has better IPC than Kaby Lake in 6 cores, sure. If I had a Kaby Lake CPU I probably would not "upgrade" to coffee lake.

depending on reviews i might sell the 1800x for the coffee lake. I just think a 6 core Kaby Lake with a delid pushing ~5ghz will be an absolute beast.

If it matches the 1800x @ 4ghz multithread it's pretty much the best of both worlds.

The raisin is running so good lately though, gonna have to wait for reviews

Premature thread is premature. How would one know without performance and pricing??? it has more cores, so if you need that it can be a consideration, but....

I may upgrade when I get the cash to do so simply because I'm still on Ivy Bridge, a Core i5 at that (no Hyperthreading).

Running a 3570K myself with a 4.4 GHz sweetspot , I will go for Coffelake if reviews confirm the rumors. IPC + core count + frequency should make for a decent upgrade. Ryzen would have only given me more cores/threads and when it comes to PCIe lanes it isn't any better than Intels mainstream platform, but prices for decent X370 are higher.

Though unlikely, if the chips work with 100/200 series boards then I would consider upgrading, but if not then I would wait and see if the price on the i7 6700K/7700K drops, otherwise I will probably wait a generation or two before upgrading.

So let get this straight. Coffee lake will be the end of 1151. However, Ryzen AM4 will allow for 2-3 more future chips to be used on the AM4 platform. Therefore coffee lake is a good buy for those who already own the 1151 platform?

I am really, reallly torn between Ryzen and Intel Coffee Lake. I intend to buy either or mid september. I have always gamed on Intel and am financially set to buy a high end 1151 board and I7 to OC the hell out of,.

It really depends upon how old your system is. If you're behind a couple of generations then yes, it may very well be beneficial to upgrade to Coffee Lake but if your system is only two or three years old, forget about it.

No, Coffee Lake will not be the end of 1151. Only the chipset.

Let's not start this shit again, it'll only result in another AMD vs. Intel shit flinging episode and we don't want another one of those.

I am not pro AMD or Intel. I am an adult and respect both companies equally. There are pros and cons of every company. But I get what your saying. Didn't mean to stir the pot!!

On a side note, the 1151 platform will not end with Coffee Lake. Just the chip set. Does this mean that 1151 will be utilized for future chip sets?

But unfortunately every time the AMD vs. Intel thing comes up the thread devolves into a shit flinging episode so lets put a stop to it before it gets to that point.

I would say that it does seem a little messed up that Intel has released three different 1151 chipsets/boards with Skylake- Kabylake and now CoffeeLake procs. Now if we had backward compatibility with all three (Z170/Z270/Z370) that would be different. But Intel (and the mobo manufacturers) are getting their money's worth out of LGA1151. KabyLake (which Z270 was made for) was originally announced as not being backward compatible with Skylake, but that proved to be false. But I have a feeling that the Z370 will not play well with KabyLake procs due to some undisclosed technical difference resulting from the 6 core procs. So I'll be surprised if a BIOS update can make CoffeeLake work on Z270. Now if they release a Z470 LGA1151 board for a i7 8790K CoffeeLake+ next year, my head is gonna explode.

Seems like Intel wouldn't do such a strange thing, but look at their history. Anyone remember the odd duck Broadwell i7 5775C, or even the Devils Canyon i7 4790k? They do some crazy stuff over there at Intel.

*(Devils Canyon turned out to be a great proc I know)

Confirmed... I wonder why @Toothless's avatar comes up. He's not even the OP.
Probably because OP doesn't have an avatar, so the crawler pick the second picture in the thread.

Back to the topic, I for one will definitely go for Coffee Lake. My 2600k is old enough and I need a new board & case anyway. 6 years is a good run for CPU and Mobo. It's time to sell and move up to something new & better.

move to 8000 series only make sense (from value and money standpoint) if you make jump from FX series or Intel Core 3000 series)
from Ryzen? yes, you would gain performance but worth your money?

Same. If they'll be obtainable and for decent price. Otherwise, at that time we'll probably have Zen 2 and Threadripper 2 so that could also be an option. But that's minimum 3 years in the future and with 6 core 12 threads at 4.5 GHz, I think I'll be fine for quite a while.

Or buy an used 2699v4 if multithreading is needed in the future. 22core44threads gotta be good enough
