Xeon 1240 v3 better than FX Octa core?

Hello everyone,
I wanna upgrade to Intel and found a great deal viz not a burden on my pocket lol!
Its Xeon E3 1240 V3.
Alsi i need to know whether this Xeon is really equivalent to i7 4770 chip?
My purpose is mostly gaming and i'll pair it with my Asus Strix GTX 970(its bottlenecking my FX 8120 right now).
Whats ur opinion techies?
Should i stick with my FX or this Xeon will suffice all my needs?

so having done some research on this rather recently:
- Make sure its not a cheap ES or QS xeon since they have different microcode and wont work with most boards
- It is the same core so yes - i7 4770 (just make sure the MB supports it) - you will have the same performance.
- they are usually locked down, so OC'ing is limited to BCLK.
- it will destroy the FX chip in just about everything.

If you get it for cheap, go for it. Definitely an upgrade to your Bulldozer. As for it vs the i7, it's the same but it lacks IGP, has a inconsequently lower turbo boost and has support for ECC. And some other things, but those are the main things.

NO the 1240 is sandybridge NOT haswell. that is the 1241 v3 NOT the 1240 v3

They are different sockets
Different performance levels
Different instruction sets.

EDIT:: NVM you said v3 that is haswell totally fine :toast:

completely myfault read it as 1240 for some reason.

Aso am not into oclocking so yeah am fine with stock speed!

You can ask. Otherwise they usually tell you. but the 1240 is a pretty normal chip that was new at a pretty decent price so I wouldnt really worry about it.

Yeah just ask - if its suspiciously cheap - like $25 then could be ES.

Ryzen 1400/1500/1500x in terms of speed. In terms on features such as ECC, none.

The fx 83** is comparable to haswell performance.

To swap everything out was wasteful when a 8300-8350 could of been swapped in and then ocd.

That motherboard with some vrm cooling could push the chip.

Read a bit more, and it sorta works but is not verified, and the motherboard has to have it enabled, and not all have.

So it doesn't support it as such, not like Xeons do.
