Here are some of the first pictures of a custom-design NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti graphics card, the KFA2 GTX 1070 Ti EX. For one, these pictures confirm the branding of NVIDIA "almost GTX 1080" SKU, positioned between its performance-segment GeForce GTX 1070, and its high-end GTX 1080. The KFA2 card ships with clock speeds of 1607 MHz core, 1683 MHz GPU Boost, and 8.00 GHz (GDDR5-effective) memory, which works out to a memory bandwidth of 256 GB/s.

Based on the "GP104" silicon, the GTX 1070 Ti packs 2,432 CUDA cores, 152 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 8 GB of memory. The KFA2 card draws power from a combination of 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power connectors, conditioning it with a 7-phase VRM. An aluminium fin-stack heatsink to which heat drawn directly from the GPU and ventilated by a pair of 100 mm fans, keeps the card cool. The VRM is cooled by a secondary heatsink, while the memory is cooled passively. Display outputs include three DisplayPort 1.4, and one each of HDMI 2.0 and dual-link DVI-D. The card is expected to launch on October 26.

I just bought a gtx 1080 a few days ago, wondering if that was a stupid idea in light of the 1070 ti...

Gigabyte-ish anyone?

Btw a 1080 is still faster than a 1070ti, nv was only trying to close a price gap the Vega56 and 64 cover

The 1080 looks a bit expensive for what it is compared to 1080 Ti. Besides all 70/80 cards will drop by 200$ in the next year so it depends what do you mean by stupid idea.

I did the same, not regretting it for a second. The 1070Ti looks like it'll be too expensive for what it is compared to the 1080 and the performance difference if leaked numbers are anything to go by. https://videocardz.com/73395/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-ti-3dmark-performance

I don't think it will be too expensive, pricing rumors put it closer to the 1070 price, which is good if the performance is true. But if you are already considering a 1080, I wouldn't take a 1070Ti instead just get the full 1080. But if you're considering a 1070, I'd just go with the 1070Ti instead. People that just bought 1080s shouldn't be concerned they made a mistake, but people that just bought 1070s should. IMO, this card is displacing the 1070, not the 1080.

Wow a card that actually looks good? Nice.

Why would this card replace the 1070, as there is only 20% performance gap bw. the 1070 and 1080, but nearly 40% bw the 1060 and the 1070.

The 1070Ti doesn't make any sense. NV just wanted to have a card that is a bit faster than the Vega56 as they couldn't stand that it overtook the 1070.... The 1070Ti will be close to a 1070 custom than a 1080 custom.

solid VRM cooling

Yeah, that looks pathetic. The worst way to design cooling: make gpu cool with good heatsink and let tiny little heatsink trying to cope with vrm cooling. All sensors and fan pwms are usually connected to gpu temps, so if gpy temps are fine vrms may burn itself and nearby components.

"Memory is cooled passively" so in another words it does not have any extra cooling at all.

Why not?

a) Nvidia probably have a bunch of gpus that does not made it to gtx1080 and have more working shaders than gtx1070.

b) Nvidia needs a new card to sell on holiday season. gtx1070 and gtx1080 are year and half old.
