AMD has decided to start pulling out some of its single-core Athlon 64 CPUs, which will be replaced by the 45W (single-core) Semprons that will be released in September this year. The soon-to-be phased out CPUs are the 65nm-built Athlon 64 3500+, 3800+ and 4000+ while their replacements are the upcoming 65nm Sempron LE-1300 (2.3GHz), LE-1250 (2.2GHz) and LE-1200 (2.1GHz), all boasting 512KB L2 cache and the 256KB L2 cached LE-1100 (1.9GHz) and LE-1150 (2.0GHz) models.

They were powerhouses in their day. That's what I started out with. RIP.

A generation of CPU's that will never be forgotten...RIP

Good, they outlived their usefulness. If you are buying a single core, a Sempron is all you need.

I still use my 4000+. But soon it will be sold to a friend. Whole system customised for $900.00

sold my previous 4000+, damn that was a sweet ass chip.

Athlon Single Cores I salute you o7

at least i have my fx57, perhaps amd's highest athlon single core...

i also trade my athlon (orleans 3000+) with a c2d
it was a very good chip, and overclocke great :)

Only recently got rid of my 4000+, damn they were work horses. Had mine running at 3GHz! and the 1MB cache helped.

Missing mine, but got an X2 at 2.8GHz which is fast to me; unfortunatly dont have the money for a C2D system.

RIP

i still have mine running just fine as a storage server. sorry to see them go.

Even my dad's socket A 2200+ runs oblivion on high textures, bloom, and 2x aa on 800x600 with good frames. It's 1.8GHz. RIP

So what, I have several socket As that still work just fine, that doesn't mean I would go out and buy one today.

dude you should sell your socket A stuff. $$

I probably should. The processor still fetch some very high prices on ebay.

I have:

3200+
3000+
2900+ x2
2500+

and those are just the bartons...

running my socket A athlon 1.33 ghz AMS3C

not sure what the fsb is on this bad boy. im actually selling this with the mobo and 512 ddr400 ram if anyone is interested

RIP Athlons.

On a side note, arent the ones they are talking about now the AM2 single cores or am I just losing it?

lol, i bought Orleans 90nm 3500+ am2 6 month ago

I have gotta say, that is just about the worst blanket statement I have ever seen coming from a guy who has owned so many single core processors that were not all semperons :D

Yep, and all of them were bought in the past. That statement affects the present situation.

So you beleive that a overclocked Semperon would not CPU bottleneck an 8800GTX any more than a Athlon 4000+ socket 939 @ 3.2Gig?

No, I believe that if you are wanting to buy a processor for gaming a single core Athlon is too weak(and too overpriced), and if you aren't buying a processor for gaming a single core Sempron will be enough.

Overpriced? Weak? :wtf:

It was rather cheap in it's day (bang for the $$$) and very powerful aswell, I can still play all of my games on Vista w/ minimal lag.

You just ignored his entire argument. :wtf:

His point is correct, theres little to no reason to buy a single core CPU as they're close enough in price if not cheaper to get a dual core.

In it's day, it's day is over.
