Sapphire took to CES 2018 to showcase one of the most elusive products in recent times: a custom variant of AMD's RX Vega graphics cards. Sapphire went to great lengths to keep the entire affair under as many wraps as possible, even going so far as to book an entire room to showcase their RX Vega Nitro+, laying still, like a mirage, on top of its anti-static plastic wrap.

There's something eerily beautiful about this graphics card: not on its exquisite back and faceplate designs alone, nor on the custom Sapphire-cut exhaust port; it's really for the condition of a somewhat "unicorn" type of product. Some people believe they're out there, but sightings in their natural environment (read, correct MSRP) are so rare that they are brought up as mass deliriums. The most interesting tech product on CES 2018 based on this story alone, surely.

Yay, AIB RX Vega cards, hopefully Summer 2018 (actual release Fall 2018)... Are they freaking kidding us all?

Every company is now doing the same bullshit card, that's insane the size of those card wasted for nothing.

I've recently puchased some RX570 nitro+, and they're bigger than my reference R9 290.
WTF really, you also cannot install them without a free pcie between them, making them in fact 3 slots wide

You would think they would make a better job with such a tiny gpu+mem on vega. But no, the same overloaded bullshit power phase system

There's no magic solution to cooling over 300W of heat and keeping it silent

Funny because there used to be solutions , remember those dual GPUs from AMD/Nvidia ? How were they cooling those ? Was it magic ?

There surely is a better way to showcase this elusive beast than dropping it on top of a anti-static bag...

Presumably it was borrowed from the only guy on the planet who has managed to find one to buy.

They weren't pulling 400W and being anywhere near quiet...

*sigh* just stop already with the Vega nonsense, turn the page and move on. Too little, too late, bad supply, meh performance. This will never take off

They were definitely pulling just as much if not more. Remember the good old 590 ? It was known for triggering PSU protection because of how much power it was drawing and God forbid you would dare overvolt it.
And yet , it ran relatively quite for the furnace it was.

Point is there are solutions without doubt for both cooling and silence even on air , whether or not these manufacturers are willing to implement them is another story. Sure we now got used to paying 500$+ for a GPU where they don't even bother redesigning the cooler so that all the heatpipes touch the die and also where the VRMs occasionally have 0 cooling. Don't be fooled by their shit products thinking that's the best they can do.

Hot Potato. An out of stock, overpriced hot Potato. I gave up with Vega. Hence why I have a 1070 Ti. Yes I know it's also a potato, but at least it was at MSRP.

Look at a 290(X) VaporX.

That's their design, there are 1070-180tis that are like this too, just put a waterblock on it or find a different maker. The card is well built.

im not an amd fan but i really wish that the aibs got these cards to amd users sooner, for competition sake

Good luck when miners are willing to pay 2x as much and buys 10x more cards than Gamers.
Oh and they don't have to deal with DX9 games being broken, because miners don't care.

An entire room, for one graphics card, that nobody can get hold of.

Is that desperation I smell?

Why is old/slow Vega a news item at CES 2018... man AMD really is going to force me to go Nvidia next build. :/ Sucks, I really wanted an all AMD rig again like my teenage years. Nvidia is just too powerful though, Ice Lake 8 core 16 thread and 1180 Ti will be my next build sadly.

A likely story. You sound like nVidia propaganda.

? A 1080 Ti decimates the Vega 64 at 90% of games by 20-30 FPS across the board at all resolutions... and is only around $100 more. I used to be AMD fanboy actually for several years, the problem is I like high refresh, high rez gaming... so I need power... and also I left for grad school last year and only option was Nvidia for gaming laptops... so.... :/ I'd love for AMD to make a comeback, but if the 1180 ti and vega 2 is same story for only $100 more and 20-30 fps gains across the board over vega 2... I have to be smart economically and pay the extra $100 as my next build will last me several years.

I am just a fanboy though... you are right... have you even looked at benches on TPU and Guru3D of the 1080 ti vs vega 64? Civ VI is the only exception to the rule, one game out of 100.

We miners do care.

Still waiting to see the Red Devil vegas in stock anywhere, they barely touch the shops shelf's .. maybe Sapphire will have more stock?
