If the performance is anywhere near Pentium Gold - it's definitely a worthy platform for office PCs (tried that on a laptop recently and it rocks).
At least on paper it looks like "this-time-it's-real-and-for-sure" improvement over the old and dusty BayTrail.
 
Only for light office and light web broswer, I don't think every hardcore performance-required user want it.

It would make for a bangin HTPC build. Throw in 4 or 8GB of ram, a 2TB HDD, a BD-rom into a good ITX case and you'd be good to go.

I'm also thinking it'd make a good, lightweight ubuntu server. You'd be able to run a few services and it'd be able to transcode at least a couple of H264 streams
 
Unless it cost less then $100 I am not going to replace my C2D X6800 which still runs on ECS nFORCE 570 SLIT-A.

It seems that motherboard vendors forgot about AMD in this segment. The last thing they heard of is kabini... :(

I think you have it backwards, it's more like AMD gave up on this market segment.

Because the last low-power APU known to be in the wild was Kabini.
 
Previously vendors had no problem taking ULV, mostly mobile-focused APUs (brazos and kabini) and making desktop/HTPC motherboards out of them.
Beema / carrizo-L / stoney ridge are the same segment.
