Do they not like making money? Then again if they were or are releasing some interim consumer card before Volta, I probably wouldn't be interested anyways.
Well it said demand is high, and competition is low. That tells me they are making plenty off of the current lineup.

i know what my mining rig is currently making.. not enough...

the real problem is most of the stuff would be miners read on the internet is out date.. to them mining seems more profitable than it really is.. back last year i got fooled this way..

i think gpus have reached a maximum price but it takes a while for this to filter into the system.. which kind of means things aint gonna get worse but it will be a fair while before they get better...

dont get me wrong here.. if eth for example suddenly doubles in price my mining profits would go up.. to be honest its all a bit of an unknown.. but as things are.. small time mining isnt profitable enough to justify the cost of the hardware..

large scale mining is only just profitable and that has to be in the right circumstances.. iceland for example..

trog

 Bit too much doom and gloom there, don’t you think? PC gaming is doing just fine. Devs still make games. Most people’s current hardware plays games for them at the standard acceptable for them, and will likely continue to do so until a) prices stabilize and b) new product is released.

If it is 14nm 400 sq.mm and 600 sq.mm chip to deliver 3840 and 5376 cores the tensor and FP64 removed then a maybe worth releasing by june, but shortly after it becomes obsolete when 10nm delivers the same product under 200 and 300 sq.mm. Also given that AMD is plannig 7nm for VEGA2 the end of 2018, that is soon, we will see the shrinking of everything to 33% of its original meaning 1080Ti becomes the new 1050Ti/1060 kind of card.

I really could use a 2080 Ti at MSRP next year at launch, 120hz 3440x1440 VA is not so easy to drive. and I must admit, its hard for me to game in 16:9 or low refresh anymore

Dear Santa,

Please give Lisa Su the power to create a Vega 2 that beats the living snot out of GTX 2080 Ti.

Sincerely,

Your Friend, Elf ID # 1337

Dear God,

Please give Lisa Su the power to manufacture so enourmous amounts of the Vega 2 if Santa fulfills her wish so that price stay at MSRP and even miners can't buy them all up.

Sincerely,

A Friend of Elf ID# 1337

Dear Nvidia,

If Santa and God answer me back, I'm going to have a nice poo while deleting your driver page link from my saved bookmarks.

Sincerely,

Uranus, a highly underrated planet

LOL. The amount of I don't even know that came out of me... For most people to come up with a post like that it would have to be HEAVILY influenced by insane amounts of drugs.

I would reply as if your post were real but it just can't be.

I was just being silly. Also, I am really bored tonight. My flight was cancelled due to a freak snow storm in Ireland. It literally never snows here, so I just didn't plan for it. lol

I don't wanna see any new product in the dGPU market until the crypto-s$#tfest is over. Either with a dedicated solution or idk what.

Sounds like a win-win for Nvidia. They can keep claiming they are "doing something" all the while raking in the cash. Why release next gen cards when they can stick to pascal that has excellent yield.

I thought (and it also my dream) that this year would be the year of 4K gaming on PC where 4K become mainstream, so 4K capable GPU and 4K monitor can become afordable...
but looks like I have to stick to my GTX 970 to play 1080p pc gaming for a while.. or maybe even for the rest of my life... since GPU manufacturer like Nvidia seems don't have passion anymore to produce new gaming card. nowadays, they focus on Deep Learning, AI, Self-Driving Car, etc..
and even if Nvidia/AMD release new consumer GPU for gaming, miners will buy that all and will left gamer with scarce and ridiculous priced GPU...

don't see any good sign of better gaming in the foreseeable future :(
I just hope my 970 can lived for a long-long time...

That is a bar that can never truly be reached, and certainly not across the board or for long.

Reason: as soon as that goal is reached, hardware is eclipsed by newer games. They will always have a number of newer games which go beyond what is capable at the time to portray it.

yeah.. competition is so low that amd made one the biggest market jump is recent history in one quarter /s

and you think that is an indication that the competition from AMD is raising? if anything we saw that significant jump not because AMD becoming more popular but because nvidia is scaling down their production before launching their new architecture to the market. that's why 1080ti price increase to insane level in the first place.

So you are saying that you are a greedy gamer and that Nvidia should only do things that you want like gaming cards instead of trying to branch out into new areas of business or research.
Sorry thats not how business works. If I only stuck to selling clothes on ebay, and that I know that clothes have a very high return rate and high chances of negative feedback, I wouldnt still be in business today. Instead I branched out into new items to sell like movies and computer parts.

did nvidia ever unveil new gaming GPU with new architecture at GDC or GTC? when launching new architecture it is so big for nvidia they usually dedicate specific event for it. sometimes nvidia just drop the bomb. back in 2016 some people in the forum quite convinced that pascal won't launch until Q3 2016 at the earliest since they did not show nor talk about pascal at CES 2016 unlike AMD with polaris.

There is so much rumors going around right now that nobody know for sure. Only one that knows is Nvidia themselves and they are not saying anything at the moment.

Anyone around here remember that one interview a year ago with Cliff B. about what it would take for photorealism?

He estimated a 40 TFLOP gpu could run a simpler single player game with fully photorealistic graphics! Problem? If you have 40 TFLOPs of computing power.... why the f*** would you use that horsepower to run a game?!

The sad reality is that PC gamers are going to have to get used to these prices. I think they will definately get better in 2019, but never again should we expect a top of the line card for $550, or even $750. Those will be $1500 from this point forward...

in one Way, its actually good...
even if they release the 2080/20XX gtx cards...
they have no point in pricing it below $699 ...when the older gen 1080 & 1080 ti are selling above $1k..

the only reason to release a card for nvidia may be is when AMD releases Navi Gpu in 2019...
till then...i think Nvidia can wait & hunt the prey..

What if cryptoCraze is not getting over anytime soon??
i think its not dying anytime soon & will run for years...

so no Gpu till that?

Well I think we'll still get SOMETHING for the gamers. Not the entire line-up, but something for sure. A card that's unprofitable for miners but desired by gamers ? Would have to be a precedent.
Frankly I can imagine paying $1000 for a card, even though I have always tried to stay at $600 tops. All depends on performance. 1080Ti +40-% performance at $1000 - sure, I'd buy that.

You're not getting a high clocked full chip "volta" for 1k (even if miners didn't exist).

Well, it is time for AMD to get something worthy out, for real this time.
It seems this would be the best time to do that.
