NVIDIA Waves Goodbye to Their Fermi Graphics Cards

As poet and playwright Edna St. Vincent Millay once wrote: Life must go on, And the dead be forgotten. Effective as of this month, NVIDIA will no longer release Game Ready Driver upgrades for their Fermi-based graphics cards. Unlucky users who are still rocking a GeForce GTX 400 or GTX 500 series graphics card in their systems will cease to receive future performance enhancements, new features, and bug fixes. However, NVIDIA is kind enough to continue providing critical security updates for the aforementioned models through January 2019. It has been a great run, Fermi. We will miss you!

Oh hell, I registered in this website by the time Fermi was released. :eek:

Direct X was 9 and LEDs were either red or blue...
Dual-chip cards were awesome and 1GHz core clock wasn't even a thing...

I guess these only needed the compatibility factor for Windows 10, since improvements mustn't have been released for a few years now.

Persona 5 could play nicely on a low end Fermi in Vulkan, instead of saturating a single thread in OpenGL.

They added the even more useless DirectX12, so go figure.

Had a couple GTX 570s I used for about 4.5 years. Repasted them and handed one off to my younger brother and he used for about 3 years now. Card works well still and overclocked very well. Any game out there on his 1680x1050 screen he can run around medium settings or better - depending on the game.

Here's hoping my 980Ti cards last me another 1-2 years for me before I look into upgrading.

Nvidia got Partial DX12 support for these cards a month or two ago... That's awesome they did that prior to putting them to legacy...
I use a GTX 470 on one of my pc's.... It's still faster than a 1030 but slower than a 1050...
That imo is incredible.

I'd have to say all of these GPU's had a good run, I have a GTX570 that I had to bake at one point, still running like a champ to this day. Ready to cook dinner, heat the house and play Crysis.
