After Raja Koduri left AMD in a low-profile-turned-high-profile leave of absence, ending up as head for rival Intel's newly formed Core and Visual Computing Group, now it's time for another high-level player to leave the company. AMD's Chris Hook has been in the company for almost two decades, rising from the bottom up towards the enviable position (at times) to lead the entire AMD's Radeon Technologies' Group Marketing Department since October 2017.

In a Facebook post detailing his departure, Hook joked that when he first joined the company, "ATI still had a smoking room, there was only one TV in the office (a small 14" black and white version we crowded into a room to watch 9/11 on), transistor size was still measured in microns, and 320x240 was considered 'high res'." Chris Hook has led (or been in the next closest position) as the public-facing effort of ATI/AMD-RTG and AMD core marketing team for a while now, so him leaving the company at a time where the global GPU marketshare is better than it ever has been in years does give some food for thought. Some publications are speculating on a move from AMD to Intel, similar to Raja Koduri's, citing close relationships between both men and the need for Intel to eventually market some products originating from their Core and Visual Computing Group (maybe with Arctic Sound?)

I wonder, with those two big names leaving RTG, what exactly is planned. I mean I've heard of Navi, and, judging by the leaks, the "new" RX 500X series are overclocked version of the current cards. I'm really interested what will come out of their GPU department.

Don't assume the two are related. This guy did marketing. What is related is his relationship to Raja, I would say.

they are not even overclocked, they are direct rebrands, i added all in the gpu database

Jeez, not even an overclock? I don't know how long they can pull this off.

And i thought Roy Taylor leaving was a kick in the teeth, I loved overhyped overdrawn launches.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

i think they are just riding the console and ect. train while trying to make a competitive gpu; I just hope they can do it.
EDIT with the gpu prices the way they have been I bet AMD has made a good amount of console gpu's.

So is this the guy that has sp3ent years rubber stamping the ridiculous marketing that keeps getting AMD in trouble in the GPU department, with over-hyping and under delivering?

Good.

Good.

I feel the same, good riddance, hopefully with those 2 gone RTG can get back to business and learn from mistakes of GCN in Fury/Polaris/Vega and become a viable competitor.

thig is AMD has allways had a high turnaround no one seems to want to stick around long with them . was like 2 years ago a lot of top guys split the scene. maybe he goes to intel to help with that partnership of the AMD graphics on intel CPU's ? that would add up

Simple, he had enough releasing Rebrandeons, today was last time.

lol, the 500X series isn't a rebrand. They would have to call it the 600 series for that to be true, aside from the fact that the 500X series is OEM only.

Wow, look at you lot of know it all's...
You clearly don't know Chris Hook, as he's one of the nicest guys in the industry. Taking digs like this on someone like him really makes my blood boil. If you have nothing nice to say, then stfu.
