Asustek Computer, one of the world's largest producers of computer components, on Tuesday unveiled what it calls "the world's first hardware based real-time overclocking device for graphics cards" along with its new Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT-based graphics board. The tool may be useful for not very experienced overclockers.

Asustek's OC Gear real-time overclocking device should be installed into a spare 5.25" bay and connected to an USB port. Specially developed software will allow end-users to adjust system master volume, graphics processing unit's (GPU's) clock-speed, GPU fan speed using a simple knob as well as monitor GPU temperature and current frames per second (FPS) information.

The EN8600 GT OC Gear graphics card from Asus is equipped with 256MB of high-speed 1ns GDDR3 memory as well as high-performance cooling system, thus, can provide sufficient overclocking potential for those seeking additional performance.

The Asus OC Gear device itself is also compatible with various graphics cards by Asustek Computer, the company said, however, it did not reveal whether the software needed for Asus OC Gear will support other than EN8600 GT graphics boards.

What about memory? Does it just automatically adjust the mem speed when you adjust the GPU?

*yawn* i could build you such a thing in a week or two

I prefer ATiTool!

i'll take one. can you make it blue? i'm still sad you wouldnt make the ATI tool cube blue.

Ill take on W1zzard for the ATI cards.

why would he make atitool blue? ati's color is red, are you like that fish from finding nemo and you like bubbles? cause then im like that fish that sees itself in the mirror but i have short term memory loss lol

this is stupid, cause im really gonna take my eyes off my computer screen to see my fps? i already have 2 fps counters running when i play :)

ATi tool and CoolBits do all the oc' I need. They should bundle a 5.25 bay oc' device for all those core2duo boys.

i was talking to wizz back when ATI tool was still in alpha, back in the fun days... and i like blue. but he said "nooooo, ATI are red - ATI tool is red!" and my love for the color blue has gone unspoken of til this very day.

I miss you, color blue.

Man, turn that thing all the way up to 11!

Asus Firstly introduced this device with their External GPU solution for Laptops so its not like they made something new...They just simplified it and transfered it from an External Laptop Solution to a Desktop Solution....However i doubt it can achieve High Overclocks....No company would make an hardware tool that could push a card to its limits.

I am going to buy two of these and maybe then my GTX will be able to beat a 2900

So... what happens when you turn the dial to its limit?

Man it would be sweet if you could make ATi Tool piece of hardware. Idk, make it look like a hammer?

You mean the icon?
