Star Citizen Introduces $27,000 Legatus Pack for the Elite

Do they really really need $187million to make just one damn game??

That's the kind of cash Rockstar puts into a game. And they have released nothing but record breaking games in the last decade. This though ...

Wonder if I can get crowd funded for selling poopy flavored lollipops.....I'll only ask for $26K per sucker (pun intended).

That and they STILL can sell GTA V at full price.

When I see this I'm sorry that I spent that 49$ on that aurora starter pack... Game is uterly unplayable (30FPS max) no matter what machine you have because of their servers. Don't know how are they going to fix that. Just adding some contetnt but not resolving REAL issues... It takes forever to load and my 16GB (full all the time) of RAM is not enough to avoid huge stuttering....

Ha, ha! Ha, ha, ha! Ha, ha, ha, ha!
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I would send those $27k on a bigger sailboat. I would go from my "new", new for me, 33 footer to a 36 footer.

The most expensive microtransaction ever :kookoo:

Schafer has delivered a lot of good games over the last two decades though--a lot of them novel too. Double Fine is the biggest studio I know of that's still indie at heart. Psychonauts 2 is the biggest game they're doing since Brutal Legend.

The warning signs are definitely there with Star Citizen. Roberts only got $40 from me and won't get anymore until what I paid for is delivered in full.

That makes two. I bought a starter package way back and that's all he's gonna get until the delivery is complete.

That being said I DO believe they will complete the project - and on top of that keep expanding upon it. This has already become the livelihood of a huge workforce, there's a buttload of brain power consolidated in CIG right now. Lots of people = high stakes and interest in success. Additionally I see that updates are still loaded with fundamental fixes and improvements - they are clearly still tweaking the basics of the engine, networking and mechanics, so the game is nowhere near a state of release, making the need for additional funding more credible.

But these kinds of backer items do leave a rather nasty taste in my mouth. The game better deliver on the player owned custom content, because if the playerbase is actively being pushed towards the PU, this project will die a horrible death due to the whales the community has created. People are creating a universe very much akin to EVE right now, already building empires that players are forced to deal with - and I think a lot of players will not fancy that one bit.

Anyone watch Wing Commander the movie?
I would love it to be remade without Roberts.
Star Citizen....
I would love to play it.... produced by someone other than Roberts....

The guy has vision.... He needs someone to get it out for him.

Edit:
Looking into it a little deeper.. He's had few failures...
I had no idea he produced "Lucky number sleven".
Good movie.

I actually didn't. Faithfully played 1-3, but lost interest with 4.. and by the time the movie came out, I had taken a break from games. It looked cheesy anyways. Then I heard it actually was cheesy, so that dropped my curiosity entirely.

Freelancer was his previous attempt at something like Star Citizen... with all kinds of interaction and MMO features. But luckily, Microsoft got tired of his crap and just made him release a shooter. Which was good enough. You need someone like that to say "Stop it." But with the money he's getting now, with no power over him, I actually almost feel sorry for him. This is a bad state for a human being to be in. That's not "rich" in my eyes. It's borderline sick.

This is a never ending SCAM

Wow even TPU couldn't resist this.

Frankly, all the media is a bunch of freaken morons. This isn't news. This is the "Lets pick on Star Citizen" time of the year. But this time, it is a Concierge only item that has been known about for weeks in the Star Citizen community that someone in the media finally realized existed and figured to run it as a piece to get fork up their butt gamers riled up.

So freaken what? Really, even in that community it's kind of a joke package. Outside of Celebs, no backer in their right mind would buy it. Why? Because most who have a lick of sense, realize the packages are trash. You can't trade them nor break them apart and gift to others. They also do not grow with time. You can get better deals via playing the upgrade system on individual sales. Why is this important? Because a large percent of the Concierge community is resellers! They make quite a bit of money buying concept ships and selling them on ebay. Packages to these people, are foolishness. For the rest that have gotten there either in big purchases or over time, if someone has gotten up to that much in store credit, then by all means, let them buy that package with their credit. It'll definitely slow down their desire to purchase when they realize how much they limited themselves with it.

Where was the media when CIG outright lied to the SC community about Squadron 42's progress and release 2 years ago at LA Citizen con? Where was the media when CIG blatantly lied about 3.0 ship price increases in order to boost sales? Where was the media when <insert CIG blunder here>? No where to be found.

But CIG releases a closed $27k package that the general public can't even get...oh here comes the self righteous brigade in full force to condemn them! Disgusting.

Run it off an SSD, problem solved. Read the SC forums more. You'll learn something about why you need one not just for SC but for future games, and also about game development.

It doesn't matter what the items are. It's just the fact that something in a game is being charged for $27k. My mom just made a big choice in buying a new car for $30k. That's how the average person lives. They plan their life around choices like this.

No wait, it's also in a game that isn't even released. Which makes it all the more open to criticism. You should expect the ridicule. You almost sound too close to it to remember what any of this looks like from a general/outside perspective.

The fact that an unfinished game that has no solid release date is charging $27k LOL.

Oh yeah i forgot that everybody earns 3k a month...

Some earn 50 a month and others millions so its not because its a lot of money for you, that's a lot of money for everybody.

I don't disagree at all. I think my family is well off myself, even if it's middle class from a typical Western perspective.

That said, this game isn't even out, which makes this particularly hilarious. I was already in awe back in the day when Ultima Online came out and people were exchanging assets for thousands of dollars. This is 20 years ago, so it's nothing new. But that was an already released game, and these sales were happening between PLAYERS themselves. Not the developer... of a NON-EXISTENT game.

I think the only reason anyone would defend them now is because said person is a backer themselves.. or was one.. and there's no way out of their emotional and financial investment except to just stick with it. But it's pathetic to witness from the outside.

Paying $27k for a WiP is charity at best. It doesn't matter how much money you have/make.

We can let you dump a fortune in our unreleased game but first we need some money from you. It's brilliant if anything.

I don't think it's brilliant really, they're not the first snake oil salesmen to take advantage of stupid people.

But they are definitely one of the most successful.

Yeah.. I'm not going to dispute that. The thing that makes them different from other people is they have no morals. Most of us know this is just wrong.

Just waiting for Erocker to pre-order this. If he does I will buy the game just to see his private planet and space fleet.

I find it funny that so many people still talk about this subject on this game, released or unreleased. I'll wait until the game is released and maybe some reviews.
Its only a game, there's much better things in life than a simple game, I hear watching the sunrise or sunset or the ocean is nice.
