NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang Gives Away 20 "CEO Edition TITAN V" To Titans of the AI Industry

This. So many people fail to grasp there are two kinds of ways to represent equality. So you are both right.

I'm sure that was his goal in giving away free stuff...

Publicity stunt it may be, but it certainly can't be construed as greedy no matter how far you twist it.

"CEO" edition....yeah, pretty egocentric.

Lest we forget?

I know, companies and their CEOs are egocentric, proud individuals. Mindblowing stuff.

Sadly there's some people who, no matter what nvidia does, they'll always label it greedy and its ceo, an egocentric p o s...

I'm not taking sides. It might even BE egocentric. But it's also the industry norm, really. Nothing new. And at least it certainly didn't make them a direct profit or something. Can't we just have a fluff piece without alterior motives, once in a while?

Not taking any sides either, just never liked and could never stand this "two weights and measures" thing.

So only two women got to walk away with them out of the 20?? talk about equality. <A U T I S T I C S C R E A M>
The one in the back looks vaguely familiar but I can't place it...

There's absolutely nothing altruistic about this. NVIDIA hands out cards to developers all the time because developers lock consumers into the NVIDIA ecosystem. If these people are writing AI code that runs exclusively on NVIDIA hardware then everyone that uses their code has no choice but to buy NVIDIA hardware.

Guys, no need to hate. Look at the pics, everyone is happy and certainly not forced to use the cards. AI in research is practically exclusively running on NVIDIA already, so Jensen probably just had a little fun and wanted to help out the poor grad students.

I'd like to have one for playing CSGO.

It's like a casino comping a room to high rollers (another lack of altruism). If there's no software (and these are software developers) to make use of Volta's tensor cores, a huge chunk of the silicon will sit idle. So in this conference, NVIDIA was trying to get developers to write code for the Volta hardware and in a later conference, NVIDIA was all about consumers buying more cards to accelerate tasks:
Give hardware to developers -> developers write code for hardware -> hardware sells to consumers and more developers -> developers write more code for hardware -> loop. Develop for NVIDIA; buy NVIDIA. As long as the code doesn't run on AMD (and soon Intel), NVIDIA can only profit.
