What SSD under 100 dollars 512GB 2.5in for notebook pc

I read any ssd 2.5" will fit and work one this laptop, so I wonder what's the best for 100$ for a 512gb ssd used or new. I was thinking the samsung evo 860 that's a little over 100 but extra durability I read. samsung, crucial, sandisk are all 100$ too for 512gb.

also what if the health condition is not exact at 100% when used.
right now this laptop is using a 5400rpm hd 8m cache 1tb.

I have a few of the 120GB versions of these in laptops and I don't think I've ever seen cheaper.

I doubt with regular use you'll get anywhere close to their intended lifetime for many years. My first SSD was an OCZ Agility 3 120GB I bought in 2011 and it's still in use today with no problem whatsoever. Considering 7 years later technology has improved I doubt it would be a problem.

However I do have a soft spot for Samsung and all the SSDs in my main rig are Samsung.

During this 7 years (i'm in the same boat with some Intel, Toshiba and Kingston drives 80-160GB) SSD became a bit faster in 4K single thread, significantly faster in 512K and higher loads. BUT average drive produced in past 5 years could die in 2 months thanks to TLC, no RAM, shrinking cells to 10nm and over "improvements" in cost.

When it comes to TLC I think at least we still have a choice to go with something like SLC/MLC, at least for now. Then again I still don't rely on SSDs to store my data, merely stuff I need to operate from. I like the good old traditional spinning disk and an offsite backup for my precious data.

It's more of an inconvenience than anything. Having to replace OS drives after a few months is very annoying, we can all agree with that.

Is that going to be the only storage in the lappie ? I'd find that a bit short.

But w/o knowing the specs, recognize that after you are done, you may not see any performance differences outside storage benchmarks. I have 2 lappies here in office, one with SSD + HD and one with SSHD and after 4 years, no one could ever tell them apart.

I think so is for my brother but he'll use his 1tb hd from the USB port too.

Put me on a mechanical and i will know even a raptor....ssd has changed the whole game when it comes to being able to feel the difference. imo
