Windows 10 Oct 2018 Update Process Runs Aground with Certain Intel Processors, Fix Released

You must've missed the other thread at TPU but IIRC it's just x99 or a couple of HEDT generations?

Yeah I did miss it and yes just a few plateforums effected like the X99.

Guess I should be glad I somehow broke windows update and now it won't download this update no matter what I do...

Broadwell-E CPUs are also affected because the update includes KB4100347 which breaks overclock settings. Luckily I don't have one of those, nor a skylake and also nothing has been deleted in the \user\(username)\ folder. This is especially fortunate since I got rid of the windows.old folder to free up space.

No problems with X99 platform.

This is getting old, my kids 8700k systems are borked after windows update, my Ryzen systems seem to be ok minus my fan profiles got removed.

Can confirm data loss here, but Onedrive syncing the affected folder saved my data.

This is why I choose the Semi-Annual Channel (and not Semi-Annual Targeted) Channel on all my machines. It delays big updates, like this one, for a while, hopefully long enough for them to work out the bugs before I get it.
