Star Citizen, the entirely amazing game that could (but may never be, considering the pace of development), is going to have a free trial between November 23rd and November 30th. The announcement, made by Cloud Imperium Games, comes as a celebration of sorts for the game, as they're readying release of the first ever explorable planet in the game - Hurston.

As an added bonus, Cloud Imperium Games will allow those who partake in the festivities to experience the thrill of flying one of those amazing ships the game is particularly known for - in unlimited fashion, for free. The new Free Fly event will see ships from all in-game manufactured being offered for trial at a rhythm of one manufacturer per day - but no, you don't get to keep the keys. Just the feeling of the behemoth or nimble space-farer you choose to take for a ride. Cloud Imperium is also promising "some surprises in store for those of you who make the trek out to Hurston and see what Lorville's all about, as well as some fun interactive activities on the website", so you should all stay tuned. Check out the announcement website on the source for a comprehensive listing of the flyable ships that are currently available in-game.

Translation: The one time of year when veteran backers should stay away. Because literally there will be thousands of idiots trying to do GTA in space and smashing into every ship that spawns on the pads. Then trolling everyone they come across if they get bored of that and miraculously manage to figure out how to jump around the system.

@NC37 you know that will happen.

I'm not sure what the point of this trial is.

Server load testing I suppose. Weren't they going to work on the networking/server meshing right about now? It just needs lots of Lemmings...

Load can be simulated, I think we both know the real reason ;)

New “pledge drive” They got my $50 years ago and all I want in return is Squadron 42 but the continuous feature creep just keeps pushing it further and further away...

I wonder when people will realize that they're being screwed HARD....
I believe when people read in their parents' wills they are entitled to a few acres of an alien planet, but they have to keep up with the mortgages, people may get a hint.

Soo don't buy it. This is free fly, it's free, it costs nothing. How can you bitch about that?

This game is a pyramid scheme of gaming, except the people that got in early don't get anything either, everybody will get screwed and they are going to run off with a bunch of cash. Star Citizen will go down as the biggest con in kickstarter\pre-buy history.

Have you played it at all?

Yes, I "bought" it over 5 years ago now, and downloaded it again recently to see where the game was at, which was in a state that didn't even come close to having any real game mechanics outside of walking around, getting stuck in everything possible, and having rudimentary control of ships that you really can't do much of anything in.

You guys should give it try. 3.3 is way better. It has object streaming like "No Man's Sky", which improves FPS. I'm hitting my max refresh on my monitor at 75hz. Lowest I've seen on planets is about 40. I'm running a Vega 56.

Have you tried 3.3? There are a fair amount of missions and cargo trading to be done. Mining is in as well. There's also pick up and deliver Uber-style missions.

I am not sure what version the game was on, likely wasn't on 3.3 as there was nothing even close to resembling an objective that could be completed, at least not that I could find.
