We recently covered Valeroa, a tentative new entry into the anti-tamper-tech industry. Valeroa tries to skirt the line of being called a full DRM solution with some non-intrusive choices in its design(which still remains much of a mystery). According to the company, "only a handful of functions are protected by Valeroa; this technique doesn't even require an internet connection, it doesn't read or write the hard drive continuously and "does not limit the number of daily installations or changes of hardware". The company's motto is that games with their protection "Cannot be cracked within reasonable time".

Well, crackers took that as a "Challenge Accepted" type of claim, and took to City Patrol: Police to test Valeroa's claims. The result was that the game was cracked just two days after release. Whether or not this means protection was assured for a reasonable time is something to be discussed between Valeroa, City Patrol: Police's publisher Toplitz, the developer (Caipirinha Games) and other companies that might be in the discussion table to use Valeroa's solution. This wasn't such a high-profile release, either; imagine this was a juicy target, such as any new AAA game, and it's likely the cracking procedure would have lasted even less time.

Didn't see that one coming. /s

thats why I never understand all this publicity, just keep it a secret, do stuff on the hush hush so nobody knows what they are even looking for

Well, honestly, looking at the game I think its safe to say this wouldn't sell much anyway. Two days is reasonable, the hype is long gone after that :D

Well, I think the whole forum called it...

Some day they will understand that the war vs crackers is useless. They will always win, just try to make better games at reasonable prices and then you win the war.

I'm curious, what's reasonable to you?

Yup, they need to stop bragging. "Neener neener, you can't crack our stuff." ...Cracked.

Well, if we talk about key resellers, then the prices are reasonable tbh, but we are not actually supporting the companies by buying games from there, so I´m refering to the standard sellers like Steam/Origin/BattleNet where new released games usually cost 60€ to 70€, and that´s on the high side if you ask me.

On the other hand, Projekt Red had 0 issues selling its Witcher 3 on GOG for 42€, without DRM. And I would happily pay such amount for such a great game. And we all know many other gamers did the same. It shows that when you actually care about gamers, you will sell well. No need for these silly protections that lead to nothing.

LOL. I love this. So entertaining.

Lol even NFS underground looks 10x better than this "tech demo".

Like I pointed out in the other thread, until someone goes through the game and confirms all the Valeroa parts are removed, we can't say it is actually cracked. We've seen these types of DRM in the past, and the crackers just cracked the Steam DRM, and not the anti-tamper DRM. So the game runs and seems to work, but you can't complete the story, or it only lets it run for a random amount of time and then "crashes", etc.

Valeroa's own description forbids there being more than one check. It's not like StarForce 3.
